CTEK charger

Hi

Recently I fitted new 3x 120A AGM batteries to our van and we have a CTEK 25000 charger , it all looked ok at the time

I left the 240v hooked up to the van in storage approx 3 weeks ago , I checked it all last week and all ok .

Today I went to check something in the van and the 12v was nearly extinct , the lights barely flickered .

I checked the charger and tried the mode button but it appears  dead , there are no indicator lights showing on the charger at all .

I checked with a Volt stick and theres power feeding to the BC but nothing happening .

Wud it appear that the unit is dead ?? Has anyone had anything similar I dont want to buy a new one it not neccessary @ $700 a piece .

The manual states Charger for lead acid batteries wud AGM batteries affect it .

Same thing happened to a bloke parked up next to us at Yeppoon.

Turned out his first CTek 25000 died 6 months from new so it was replaced under warranty

the second one went the same way after 8 months later, he replaced it with a Projecta and so

far it's still working.

Thxs for that I spoke to a chap in Melb today that specialises in the caravan electrics field 240 and 12v

He said it had more than likely sh...itself , and he recommended Enerno Drive ?? Said he had problems with CTEK and non with this brand

Plus its cheaper .

Had 3 of the 8 amp Ctek chargers replaced under the 1 year warranty, only used for keeping the ride on mower charged. Bought a Mattson & that's still running 3 years later.

I've got a 7a CTek in tray of ute to top up 85a Battery for fridge in there.
Been doing that job fine for around 5 yrs now. The fridge. not the ute.
They do have a good, general reputation over the yrs.

At that price. if buying new. Look at Xantrex (ex Trace) marine/industrial units.
I have one 16 yrs old now 3 outlets, Never hardly turned off.

Cost $800+ back then
But a lot cheaper now, Same as panels.

I do have a 40a 4 stage there too though for bulk charging anything if necessary (spare unit)
with 85w panel on top when away.
Even a 40/50w panel on top will keep battery's floating a lot higher and nicer than any power source.
on top of charger input.

What a lot of blokes I've known have done.
Is buy a basic 3 or 4 stage 30/40/50a charger along with an 80+ w panel on roof.
We found the bulk charger pumped the joice in and when they cut out,
the panels floated them at higher ampage than smart chargers did.
At similar or lesser cost than the 6/7 stage units.

Hi Mezza56,

I have two chargers, both have a different setting for AGM and lead acid or "Wet" batteries. Could it be that the charger is only for "Wet" batteries not AGM?

Cheers Vince

Yep you are right Bill B, I had a look at the CTEK website, the 25000 will charge any battery.
