Just a thought ., we hired a motorhome in NZ . It had a copper pipe wrapped around exhaust from a seperate water tank . Only thermal action circulation heated whole tank . Good if your moving every day .. Or so ..
There was a recent post about the Duetto 12 Volt/240 Volt water heater which showed TWO elements that failed. Sounds like they should be steered clear of.
I have a friend who bought the Coleman semi portable hot water system and are very happy with their purchase. Enough for a quick shower as well.
Ordered a Swift Ecotherm last week will install next weekend when it arrives (will post install details and list of materials when completed) seems a very safe option and from all accounts gas usage will not skyrocket when off the grid. Waiting to see how noisy the fan is under the bed, will probably just run it before we go to bed to warm up the van, blankets are cheaper.

I fitted a "hottap" instant supply unit. $360? del. fits. inside/outside van.
T connector on outlet. One to sink one to suplied shower head. Add a pump and away you go.
Just heats what you want. when you want.
Can connect to van gas supply. I use a separate 4.5kg bottle in front boot.
Just Another alternative.
After 50 yrs on vans Either are good. Fixed piped in units with tank cost $800 up and do same job
Plus you have to wait for tank to heat.
these are near instant.
if going for tank units, look at the stainless tank units. You don't have to worry about anodes.
My Roadstar, 2000 model used 3 or 4 months a yr plus standing the rest. Still clean and no corrosion.
I just replace my tank gas unit for an instant gas unit. Took a few things adjusted thrown away . To get it hotter and keep hot it kept cutting in and out. Took of the thermal mixer valve . Bypassed the preasure vale but put it back it wasn't the problem . Sorted now . I just ordered a water saver valve to save water till hot water comes out the tap . We use 6 ltrs till hot this will save every drop now .

Hi has anyone fitted a hot water heater in a van and if so how effective are they.
Please explain what you are after. Are you just wanting a water heater for your sink or are you wanting to use a water heater to supply heating for the van? To me "hot water heater" indicates the second application.

Burgo1 I have started a new thread for setup details. (concept is using a car style heater to warm the van) Hot water source is on-board hot water system be it Suburban (gas/electric) or diesel.
This is instead of using hot air from diesel heater.
