computer query

I hope some one with computer savvy can help me.  My computer will only accept typing at the "hunt & peck" speed.  If I go any faster it leaves out letters that I know I have pressed.  Keith did a bit of delving into the system & he said he adjusted it to as far as he could.  So far I have preserved with slow typing & going back over every post or email to insert missing letters.  But I now have a longer entry which will require lots of typing & it will drive me bonkers.  Computer is Acer laptop.  Please help  Alice

Hi KIWI IAN here.

Try plugging in usb keyboard into your laptop to see if that fixes your problem.if it doesn't then you need to get your laptop looked at.

It sounds like some task may be hogging the CPU. Check the list of programs in Task Manager. Try stopping particular tasks to see whether the system speeds up.

Also check the SMART results for your hard drive. You could use CrystalDiskInfo for this. Bad sectors can sometimes cause the system to stumble and pause.

Hi.

Those lappie keyboards have a nasty habit of calking. (Acer not one of the better ones)

Missing key strokes is normally the start of it.

As Kiwi says, try a plug in Keyboard first. BUT not a cheap one
Go to dealer with your lappie. ask to plug it in to a keyboard first.
If it works. fine. Buy it.
if not.
Next step.

If the keyboard it can be replaced IN Lappie.
depending on age/condition.quality of this one (IE.is it worth it)

You can get a good basic new lappie for around $5-600. Then later. get an external hard, transfer all work to it.

OR (with new one)
Replace HDD with a solid state drive. Ghost the old one first then swap them over.
Instant 300% more speed.
Then if original HDD 500.750gig get a ext case for it. and run it as your back up hard.
As long as it identified as E/F whatever. the Windows in it won't activate
But you have if necessary.

ALL Laptops though, have a small hidden Partition on Hard. with reset folder in it.
(Plus all the MFG'S crap).

two key presses from off, will normally activate. and reset it to showroom settings.
Copy your needed files first though.
Ask any dealer of your mfg. They'll normally give you the activation keys.
Or ask on here.
Toshiba are "start" and "O" keys together.

Most Lappies don't last more than 5 yrs or so. Some go longer but need parts upgrading.
But whatever you do. add more RAM. (mine's running 12gig with 120gig SDD and 2 Terra external.)
With another 2 gig for movies...

If you need more advice, there would be lots on here with the knowledge to help you over this link.

Delta.

With Lappie's. Normally.
The Win files are in hidden Partition.
If you reformat lappie's they normall lose the Windows from it. and you don't get a hard copy nowadays from MFG's.

Buy a win 7 Home/Pro (cheaper)
then reload WIN 10 over the top.
It free at present.

You then have both legally.

Gday...

Alice, I reckon don't mess around. Have it checked for viruses by a professional.

It probably just needs a proper check for viruses and malware.

Unless it's Windows 8 - it has stupid built-in features which cause symptoms similar to virus activity.

You could phone and talk to this bloke - he will give good advice (usually no charge for advice) ... very trustworthy - http://www.nqce.com.au/

Cheers - John

Try taking the battery out and re-starting on AC power.
