Hi D Ho! I'm from Melbourne but am retired and live in Shanghai China. My wife will retire in a couple years and we are interested in becoming "snow Birds" for 6 months of the year. We're not really interested in snow- we want to leave the Shanghai winter and recharge our batteries. We thinking of getting a 14-16 ft pop top (Goldstream??)and a suv tug. Since we have to fly back to Melbourne, we wondering when the best time is to buy a pop top ie when are most people selling? We also will probably buy a late model isuzu SUV or a Mitsubishi Pijero and I suppose the best buy time for them is june-aug - is that right. Would appreciate any advive you can offer because we're really novices!
Thanks VK3SHA ( VK#SHA is my past HAM call sign- we can't transmit in China)
Welcome to the gang vk3sha, enjoy here and out in the playground (when you get here).
I would suggest June is the best time to buy a tug as dealers are offering good deals due to end of financial year. The Isuzu Dmax is a good tug. I had one in mind but Holden offered a much better deal so ended up getting a Colorado twin cab ute with a canopy fitted. No regrets. Yes, it was June.
Keep safe on the roads.

I'm looking at the Goldstream 14 and 16 ft pop tops and would really like a van with a small room for a porta potty or a fixed chemical toilet so we don't have to go bush in the middle of the night. We can wash up with the hot water service in the kitchen. I don't like those tiny showers and the associated extra van weight. Are there any manufacturers who have a toilet but no shower? Any other solutions?
