Electrolux fridge question

we have a Electrolux RM2310 90 Litre fridge, it has been plugged into the 240 v supply for two weeks now. Van is level. Fridge section working well. Warn 6 pack very drinkable after 3 hours. Problem is the freezer is cold but not freezing.

we would like to do our first trip this weekend, freezer not needed but would like any advise available or recommendation of someone on the Sunshine coast north Brisbane who can look at it. Cheers thanks

How old is it.

What I've done/do. as have a lot of others
is have a waeco 50/60/80(now) ltr fr/freezer in rear of car as freezer mainly
and just use that useless Electrolux as a fridge.

Up North, you'll probably toss it like most of us have

Without o LOT of tuning and even more luck
They never much good for anything above Victoria.

Some do persevere.
But I think they have more patience and pigheadedness than something else.

I took last one down dump coulpa months ago after sitting in shed for 10 yrs or so.
and is had new electric and 12v inits just installed.

Waeco's the same size. fit straight in place of.
for same price (or less from Waeco shop) and a zillion times more efficient
economy wise too.

Thanks Macka I presume the fridge is from the original build 11/98. I have a Waco 50 litre fridge for the car, can you advise/suggest should I install a second battery in the car for the fridge to use overnight. What model did you use as your replacement in the van pls.

We are doing our first overnighter this weekend just to get the feel of vaning, many more weekend trips before the end of the year and expect a run to Adelaide over Chrismas. Look foreward to the experience. Cheers.

Hi CC.

Can't remember the model, (CR1080 or CR 1110???).
But it was a 90ish ltr WITHout ext cladding. Compare dimensions of them to suit your hole.

I got some 1\2 in Styrene sheeting and fitted it round both sides of fridge as it slid in hole.
Then had some flat 1 1\2 by 3\16 ally plate which I cut to size lengthways and across top.
Rivetted into front of fridge. Screwed into timber surround

You can buy from Fridge SHop cheaper.
Normally only have dented packing or maybe a scratch.
1000 times better than any 3 way.
Just remember to turn it down. not up.
If you have it set at 4.5 or above.
it works better. (Yea. I know. dumb but simple.)
Have fun.
Regards

Heyyy. New T grommet in ear.
CAN HEAAR again.. waaaaaaay to go. A grand a pop though, after returns.

Whoops.
Regarding car fridge.
I had a 50 Waeco. swapped mate for an 80 fr'freez unit.

Both around 12/13 yrs old. Replace ext fan in mine. lid on 50.
That's it.

Yep. I'd recommend a spare battery anyway. with electronic controller under bonnet.
Redarc 112 don't keep battery's up (I've had 2) Electronics do.

I have a 85ah battery in tray of ute. (Under bonnet in Prev Patrol) with heavy. NOT Starter cable strength wiring.
I use Jumper leads for that.
Also a 40A 4 way AC charger fitted in tray to top up when on mains. and charging other things when needed.

Also I have bars on roof of Ute. with 2.5mtr roll out on passenger side.
With a spare 85w panel on there too. Keeps battery /s topped up and runs fridge when away.
That hangs in carport roof when not in use.

Another goodie is a H/Duty cable from Anderson from wiring panel in tray,
that I can connect to caravan 12v if needed Overnight
To help run Waeco too.

I find it better to have several alternative power sources from/to several points,
then if one goes you still have alternative juice coming from elsewhere. to somewhere.

Rather than all eggs in one basket.

Also, the internal fridge works better when installed without outer cladding, and more insulation in lieu of.

Another tip.

Your 50 Waeco.
go to Air cond ducting supplier in town.
But a length (2.5mtrs did my 80 plus 35 with spare) of 17mm Ducting Lagging.
Hard grey with silver Ally outer skin.
Cost me around $72 a coupla yrs ago.

Cut. fold and wrap with duct tape. Leave hole for fans and handles.

My 80ltr up North in rear of Patrol (Lagging has top flapover)
When you lift up flap, Top of fridge is completely covered in Condensation.
Wet as a shag.

That's efficiency.and much less juice used to hold temp's as freezer.

You'll also notice 3 way 12v wiring is a bit light on.
I run a H/Duty length of wiring along UNDER the van in parallel to,.
SPlice at fridge link.then to front of van at fuse pack.

I also have an anderson from car second battery to fuse pack too
mainly for fridge supply.

Van battery and 200w panel run fridge lights TV etc in fridge when disconnected.
Plus 3.8kva Genny for AIrcond etc

Spare battery in tray also does job in tinny for electric motor. GPS, Sounder etc

Busy little bees aren't they.

Everybody does things different to suit their own loads.
Check us ALL out for our rigs and sort out the better bits for yourself. OK.
NOBODY is perfect. and we ALL get things wrong at times.

A combination of ideas hopefully gives you more chance of getting things 'righter" hey.

Have fun.
