Noise vs Diesel Heater

How noisy is a disiel heater. Inside ?? Outside?? I don't want to buy one and feel embarrassed to turn it on from the neighbors

Are they worth it ????

I would not be without it. Very little noise externally and only a low fan noise to no noise inside. Have it on 12hours at night and wouldn't know it was on when sleeping. keeping van at a cosy 20 deg inside when minus 3 degrees outside. My heater is an Eberspacher, very happy with it. When on continually for 14 hours overnight it uses less than 1 litre of fuel. A great investment. Cheers Allen

We are very happy with our diesel heater as well Allen.biggrin When on 240v power in a crammed location I would use an electric fan heater. The fan heater is much noisier.

Ours is quiet . If we turn it up or on initial warm up . At first it runs on high fan till room warms then slows down to super quiet . The length of internal hose / ducting as ours runs under sittee seems to make it even quieter . A litre of diesel overnight is so efficient ., outside once warmed up . Almost no smell and extremely quiet . Ours has a muffler and over a meter of stainless crinkled exhaust . So efficient ..

Hi Chucker,

Ours is brand spanking new planner heater. I also fitted the muffer at the same time. l have only run it three times in the drivway.

I wouldn't leave home with out one. Money very well spent for our long retirement traveling adventures.

The first few times I operated our heater in close company I asked the neighbours if they heard or smelt it running. In every case the answer was no & no.

If you are chasing around for a cheap one then make sure that the kit comes with a silencer for the exhaust. If you don't fit an exhaust the neighbours will know you are running it.

Hi, I bought my Eberspacher from Heatso on line. Arrived 5 days after order was placed from UK and was under a $1,000.00 If you go over a $1,000.00 you have to pay GST.  I then purchased the plastic 10 litre fuel tank from Pinnacle Wholesalers in Ballarat ($70.00) delivered by post.

 The only extra cost was:

  1) extra wiring to run main lead straight from battery.

  2) aluminium plate to make mounting bracket for unit (and fuel tank)

  3) I already had a hole saw kit.

  4) Tube sikaflex

  5) Inlet vent ( I mounted mine under the seat)

  6) Foam tube (Clarke rubber) I mounted the electric fuel pump, wires and fuel line in the tubes, this was to eliminate the ticking noise of the fuel pump and protect from stones.

 7) Beer and rum.

 8) Zippy ties

Quoted well over $1,000.00 to fit.

Took my time, I actually assembled it all on a bench first and had it running, (but it wouldn't slow down). Then worked out where I was going to fit it, what size plate, length of wire etc I needed.

the only trouble I had fitting it was the wiring diagram didn't show which 2 wires had to be joined to get the unit to switch off. It would only run flat out) A couple of emails to Heatso and they sent me link showing me which 2 colours had to be joined.

Works fantastic. :))

Len.

I must have the only noisy heater on the planet . It's not to bad really but there is some fan noise inside and out . If I was free camped on 100 acres and someone parked beside me bad luck I'm using it . Probably do with a muffler . O well Ye ask I tell

we have our fuel pump installed in the front boot.
Now our bed butts up against the boot wall so we can hear the tick tick tick of the fuel pump working.
But it is worth it for the warmth we have during winter.

We are the same and the gentle tick of the pump is relaxing and helps us fall off to sleep. biggrin True.

The only think we all have to remember, is to keep the unit dust free. After five years on the road, our started playing up in April in Tasmania. Went to an agent for Dometic (Eberspacher is our brand) who told us our issue was only due to the dust collecting on the heating unit. Now we regularly vacuum the unit and vents, and have managed to survive -3 temps. Best thing we installed on the van was our diesel heater.

What noise?

My heater consist of a few km's up the road till Townsville and above.
