Towing caravan with mitsubishi (new model) Pagero Sport

Hi All

I have  just returned from my 1st trip driving my new Pajero Sport and have some fuel consumption figures to share.

We travelled from Gippsland through the grampians to port augusta through to alice springs darwin, mt isa, townsville then back to gippsland. In all we travelled 13,101 kms with1244 kms without the caravan attached (about 9.5%). Towing a 19ft caravan weighing 2360 kgs fully loaded with a towball weight of 280 kgs all verified by weigh bridge. The car had 2 occupants and 70 kgs of tools etc in the rear cargo space. We used 1981 litres of diesel giving average fuel consumption of 15.12 litres per 100 kms. The fuel averaged $1.36 per litre and totalled 2694.30 with price varying from 1.04 per litre and 1.92.7 per litre this was at barrow creek nt and thankfully was by far the most expensive we encountered. The cheapest was 101.9 per litre in port wakefield SA.

The Pajero Sport had 3474 kms on the clock at commencement of tour and 16,575 kms at tour end. As this was the first holiday with the pajero sport it took a little time to acclimatise to firstly driving an auto and secondly getting used to towing with same.

All in all we are very pleased with the performance of the car and note the better fuel consumption as the holiday progressed with fuel consumption in the first 2000 kms being higher than the overall average. Gippsland to darwin i cruised at 94 kmh on clock and darwin back to gippsland at 98 kmh on clock. I believe the next trip will bring further fuel savings as it was getting better throughout our holiday.

Ally

Great to hear about your PS fuel economy, as we just picked ours up only a couple of days ago. One thing I have noticed is that the speedo reads about 6k over the actual speed as measured by our GPS. I love the PS it's a fantastic car.

Normally upping tyres one size neutralises most speedo differentials.
Though at around $180/200 for a basic Garmin 6in everybody should have one.

Gives fuel speeds distances averages. fuel and road distances.
Great for older veh without those screens (my 2010 D-Max for a start)

Along with a car camera under front mirror too.
Covers your arse in speeding. ,accident claims.with location. Time. speed.
and verbal comments made at that time too. (So mind the p's and q;s hey)

Just a note on Dash Cam's; I bought the NavMan MiVue 560 - great unit, WHEN IT WORKS! It simply stops recording every now & then for no apparent reason. Its easy to fix, just restore default settings & its fine again for a while - BUT, every time I've wanted to watch something I saw on the road, it had stopped recording again! :(

The speedo on our Navara is out by about 7kmh @ 60kmh. It get worse on a sliding scale as the speed goes up. The speedo on our (full size) Pajero is spot on.

Yes but its Gross Combined Mass is only 5400 kg which is a bit light compared to some others,

Sadly, because we like the Pajero sport, if we loaded our van out to its max of 2760 (which it isn't) we'd be 40kg kg over, so for now we have to stick with our current Pajero and keep the weight in check at 2500 as not to breach that stupid ball weight restriction.
