Sounds very much like a pressure build problem to me. As water goes in there is nowhere for the air in the tank to escape. Check to see if there is a valve maybe near the inlet that is blocked.It might be on top of the tank and not easy to see perhaps.

My air escape is next to the water fill hole.

Check that the breather pipe that comes out the top of the tank is not blocked or kinked
poke a piece of wire down it they get wasps and spiders in there

Open the tap on the "A" frame sometimes help to let the air out as water goes in.

Thankyou !!!!!! we just finished filling it took a long time couldn't work out what was wrong but at least its full. Something to investigate when we get back home. Thanks again.

It will be water in the air pipe and therefore not allowing water to flow in quickly. Although some vans do have bends etc in the inlet pipe which makes filling the tank very slow.

I had this problem with our 2 tanks on the current van, and also our previous van.

What I have found is take any fittings off of the end of the hose, push it right into the fill point until it hits and cannot go in any further, move it an inch or two back, and then fill.

On both of these vans, the tanks will then fill reasonably quickly. It may take a while to rind out exactly what pressure to have the hose on, and how far into the fill point, but I suspect it will help.

I have a short length of hose with taper cut at one end and brass hose fitting at other.

Those fillers have a large inlet area leading to a smaller dia, outlet.
Mainly off centre

I stick it in filler hole, wriggle it around till tapered end slides down into the narrower inlet hose,

Easy after a coupla goes. (You know where it is). Clip hose onto end and turn on tap.
Simple.
Normally turn on sink tap too, as a vent.

Hi. I had a 2006 Jayco sterling with the same problem on one tank, I could not push the hose into the filler and the water would gush out, closer inspection showed an elbow in the fitting and also the pipe curved upwards before .lgoing down to the tank giving the impression that the the tank was full. if it is similar to the jayco you can se it through one of the cupboards. As you are travelling and do not wish to make repairs until you return home, I offer this advice

I had the same problem with both a caravan, and a motorhome.
I cut the end of the hand held filling hose in a taper, this allowed me to push and twist until the filling hose was inside the tank.
As soon as the hose was inside the tank, I placed a mark on the hose, so that next time, I knew when to stop pushing
This allowed most of the water to go into the tank, before it started spitting out of the opening

As others have already said, you have to make sure that the vent hose is not blocked, and also make sure that the filling tube is not kinked
I can understand that you do not want to start crawling around, until you get home

Also check your fill flap hose connections if they run through a cupboard, or under seat. Water will always find the easiest way out. cheers Craig

I'll try that because mine does the same but differently.

It spews water out for a few seconds then starts gurgling and fills up ok.
