The best days were those of Johnson, Moffatt, Jane etc etc. IMO.
Don't forget Brockie as well Dougwe,
How easily their Christian names come to hand as well !! Dicky, Alan, Bob, and of course Peter,, pity the good days are gone, when just about anyone could knock the windows out of a car and enter it in the race.

These cars were standard. I think the only modification was radial tyres instead of cross ply. A lot of these cars were also registered. They drove them home after the race. Just unbelievable!
Not just Bathurst either. I remember a mate and myself drove down to Phillip Island one day, pulled up at trackside on the home strait, sat on bonnet all day. Both of us couldn't go to work the next day cos we got burnt to a crisp. Was a great day though. If I remember correctly, my hero, Dick Johnson, won the day.

"HMMMMM" Your Mate didn't have the name of Gleneig by any chance Dougwe ?
and the reason you were burnt red, was because of all "The Reds" you blokes had put away on the day, LOL

I agree with you there Cruising Cruze, we worked for every cent we put into our Stock Cars and had a ball at the same time.
things were a lot cheaper those days ( back in the 60's ) I recall how the Sponsors were climbing over themselves to pour money into your car, just to get free advertising ,through having their names on the side of your car, which was shown on live T.V.
My first car was purchased from a Ford Dealer, a F.C.Holden, it was in perfect condition, having just been traded in, They let me have it for $40.00 I drove it home and it went like new,
Took it home and spent a few weeks stripping it and fitting the required safety gear, roll bars etc, never won a race but had a great time until it was put over the fence by a Mini getting hooked up on my rear bumper bar.
Yes, great memories, "bring them back"
