cutting small sections in 3mm Aluminium composite???

Any suggestions re how one would normally cut small sections (e.g. handle, lock etc) in 3mm Aluminium composite?

(I have a circular metal cutter blade for metal/Aluminium for the outside cuts, but wondering for the small cuts that aren't on the edges so to speak)

Hi mixedup, just use any tools that you would use with aluminium sheet.:- Hole saw, jigsaw, router, trimmer,(with correct cutters), high speed drills, file etc. Stick masking tape over the work area to prevent scratching.

ok thanks - I've got a jigsaw, so maybe I'll try this first on some offcut then (think I have a Aluminium blade for it if I recall in the set of blades I got)

I drilled a hole and used a router, 6mm straight cut bit, worked really well.

Use some cutting compound to stop blades/teeth chocking up

Hi mixedup. I used my drop saw with a fine toothed TUNGSTAN blade, it did a nice cut on aluminium profiles.

Cheers Rob.

maybe dumb question but, what brand/type do you recommend, and how do you apply it?  is it just something you apply along the cut line before you start?

WD40 or similar sprayed on the blade now and again, also along the cut line helps.

A fein saw would be the best tool to use, but buy the cheaper alternative on ebay or maybe bunnings, it's an oscillating saw like they use to remove plaster casts idea for aluminium sheet.

Hi mixedup.

Never a dumb question if you don't know, I use WD40  or similar will suffice.

Just need to keep a lubricant on the tool cutting edge or blade to stop the swarf from adhering to it.
