Hot water issue

I have a Coaster 85 that has an heat exchanger in a tank 60L that the rear heater setup runs the water from the engine through it. This works well to supply hot water but has a downside in that my engine runs way too cold. Like high 50c to low 60c all the time. Very rarely would I see 70c this is with a new genuine thermostat. I use an engine watchdog to monitor the engine temp. I tested it also with an infrared temp gun and the temp on the watchdog was identical to the infrared gun. This temp is way too low for a diesel engine to run so I would like to even have some cut off switch for it also till engine warms up. My heater control valve is stuffed so I have no way ATM to stop water flow to it besides blocking it off or put a ball **** etc on it which would be a PITA to access.

I have wondered about an electrically controlled switch to control flow, Manual flow control lever action with servo motor assist. They do exist but I'm running around in circles finding who supplies, Vintage Air con make it but looking through their pdf I cannot find it, Someone says that a thermostat switch to turn off flow when it reaches a certain temp, But that still wouldn't solve the problem fully.

I need some way to control the flow of water from the engine to the exchanger in cab as the original heater control valve is stuffed and none are available. The choke cable setup is working fine when I disconnect it and operating the control valve manually still won't shut off flow.

So any ideas would be appreciated Cheers Allan

Fix a bag or something over the grill . We used to do that in cold country in trucks . You got a monitor do. You have the alarm on it . If so you can work it out .

Best 100 I spent on the monitor

You use to be able to get a winter thermostat which would open at a higher temp and would stay only partly open to maintain the higher temp.  You also use to be able to install a roller blind in front of the radiator with a wire back into the cab to adjust the height. I am I showing my age here. Your engine will run a lot better if you get the temp up in the 80s

Regards,

Warren

Like already has been mentioned. Partly cover the grill/radiator. Should only take a few runs to find out the ideal coverage needed. Cable tie cardboard on untill you know exact size needed then make something a little bit more permanant.
Also calibrate your temp guage to save any issues!!!!
Best of luck.
