On Sunday night we stayed in the free camp at GinGin QLD along with about 25 other campers, mostly grey nomads. By Monday morning the bins were overflowing with the birds (crows) then scattering the rubbish around. And still people were taking their rubbish to the bin and just leaving it on the ground beside the bin making more mess.
I ask everyone to please take your rubbish away with you if the bin is full so that councils don't have another reason to close free camps.

I would even be willing to make a donation for the cause
In my opinion (so I could be wrong), there will be more, and more, future travellers on the roads If we do not somehow get the message out, that we are biting the hand that gives us free camp stops Then we should not cry when we lose the option of free camping

I understand your point of view Tony ..... However, the logic is a trifle flawed.
You assume -
people will read the sign;
people will understand the sign;
people will respond to the sign; and
people will care.
Unfortunately, the only thing, it seems, that cannot be injected into the situation is common sense.

Pulled in at McLean's Bridge - Tully Memorial Park - Mt Lindsay Highway (QLD) - only one van in - but a couple of areas with "travellers snow" all over the ground, - good size bins as well as loos nearby - so why????
Have posted in the Free/Budget Camp spots about Tully Memorial - great spot, in the Logan Council zone - direct route to Brisbane, Gold Coast etc.

You are correct in what you say I suppose that it is wishful thinking on my part
I just think that it is a pity that there are people, and people, and that we are sometimes all tarred with the same brush
My theory is, so I could be wrong, is that if we the people, who know something is not quite right, say or do nothing, then we can expect nothing to change
A few days ago, I was travelling in the Busselton WA area. On one of the highways there was a road sign saying that Littering was illegal, and you would be fined, or words to that effect I did not see any litter on that section of highway, which may or may not be coincidental
Perhaps someone who lives or travels in that area, can give the exact wording of that sign From memory that was the first time I had noticed this sign, although I do not go to that area very often

Sorry Rocky but the problem has little to do with common sense and more of attitude of the jack kind.
Some bins I have seen have compost in lower section . I assume they havnt been emptied for some time .. But hell beer cartons etc can be taken with you . Then there's truck tyres in some ? Why leave them ??
Just another reason why we love staying in our home state of Victoria over winter.
Aaaaah the serenity! Most ''free camps'' are empty & no rubbish around to speak of.

You should spread the word around with your fellow Victorians, after all "Victoria is the place to be". What the hell are all the Victorians doing in Queensland.
Stayed at Merbein Common in VICTORIA for three nights a couple of weeks ago. On leaving my wife picked up a shopping bag full of rubbish and took it to the bins at the local park. Just common sense to me. If I ever see anybody littering I will photograph their number plate and give it to the local council or Parks people. Filthy mongrels should be named and shamed.
Carry a pick up tool, some spare plastic shopping bags and at each stop while the better half does the coffee or lunch or whatever, spend 5 minutes or so picking up rubbish. And either bin it or take away. If we all did that it would make a huge difference and also get the newbys either noticing or thinking about it. Havent seen too many doing it though I keep at it in hope.
At Denham in W.A. at the Shark Bay rescource centre you can get an Outback Pack. This contains
rubbish bags for the car, larger rubbish bags for larger items, gloves to protect your hands and a very
large bag for picking up messy and larger rubbish. There is also a return paid card that you fill in to advise them
of where and when you picked up the rubbish. It's all free and is a great idea to help clean W.A. clean.
So far we haven't seen these packs anywhere else.

Perhaps there is a change (pardon the pun), as well as the rubbish blowing in the wind I remember back in the day when I was a boy, and a lot of older men use to spit on the ground At the same time there seemed to be more rubbish blowing in the street, than we see now
We now see very few people spitting on the ground, and less rubbish on the streets of the towns
I have been through a few towns now, where they have doggie bags in the parks, and a sign warning you to clean up after your dog
I came by two of those cleanup packs which were given to me by some community organisation. I think they are leftovers from the Keep WA Beautiful Day which is held every year. The large orange bags are very handy and also its good to have the gloves as there are some things disgarded that are way beyond disgusting. There was a neatly folded up sugarbag in there as well which I thought would be handy if I have to get on the ground. When I drove back from Quobba last week, it looked like some Carnarvon shire workers were using the orange bags to clean up roadside rubbish and they are easy to spot when the truck comes to pick them all up.
I'm at Sapphire. As you all know there is a dump point at the public toilets with free camping surrounding the area.
I went there today to empty at the dump point. The bin at the gate was full. Someone had piled full bags of rubbish around the bin on the ground.
I took my two bags of rubbish over to the other bins just outside the swimming pool entrance which is in the free camping area. The bin I put mine in was empty.
What's wrong with people they cant walk an extra few metres.

York, WA Council very kindly provide free RV parking (one night only) right in town near the river, on a bitumen ring road. There are 4 power points for those who get in first, otherwise none powered along the road facing the park and river. They even leave the toilets open all day and all night now when they have a big group there, instead of being locked from 7.30 PM until 7.30 AM as normal. There is a dump point outside the toilet block. There are signs up saying no running of water onto the ground (bitumen parking area) or buckets (I assume because they can overflow). Underneath one RV I saw two large pools of liquid where someone had drained their tanks or ran their shower or sink water directly onto the ground. As RV's come and go at all times there the RV over the top of this water may have just parked there because there were no other spots and the culprit departed earlier. This is the type of behaviour that gets free camps closed down.
