Fiat Ducato 2006 Windscreen Motor temporary repairs

I am not a Motor Mechanic or any type of Electrician

Recently I had the pleasure of the windscreen wipers stop working

By elimination I traced the fault to the motor mechanism

The stalk looked OK to my untrained eye

I removed the windscreen wiper motor mechanism, and found an obvious fault

See the attachment of what I found and how I made a temporary repair, just to satisfy myself that the stalk was still OK

As the repair was temporary and will therefore only last until it fails again, I decided to purchase a new Windscreen Wiper Motor mechanism, which I shall carry with me as a spare

There is only one Fiat commercial agent in Western Australia, to the best of my knowledge

I found a second hand one at a wrecker in the Sydney area, at $246 plus freight, but when you see the attachment on what I found wrong with mine, you will know why I did not wish to purchase a second hand one

I purchased a new genuine Fiat one from, this is the link to my recommendation post, at a total cost of $212 and thirteen cents, delivered to my door

In summery and I am not complaining only explaining

The 2006 Fiat Ducato, has a windscreen wiper motor that is open to the atmosphere.
In a normal situation, this would probably be OK, as each time the engine bay gets warmed by the engine, any moisture inside the wiper motor, would probably evaporate

In my motorhome, purchased in 2014 with just on 30,000 genuine kilometres on the clock, it has obviously stood for many long periods of time
In the two years I have owned it, it has done just under another 30,000 kilometres (I have yet to do the 60,000 service)
The moisture had rotted the wiper motor from the inside out

My advice to anyone with the same model as mine, is that after the next long trip, remove the plastic shroud, so that you can see the wiper motor, and wrap Gaffer type tape around it, so that it is waterproof

If this advice is wrong, then I hope the Auto Sparkies will come forward and correct me
