Hi everyone, This maybe an old subject but my and I are in the market for a new or late model 2nd hand tow vehicle. We have been looking at a dualcab auto diesel with 3-3.5 t towing. Do any models stand out as best. We have looked at Colorado, Amarok, Isuzu and BT 50. Toyota seems to have priced it's self out of our range. We have a 19'6" lotus and used to tow it very well with the Colorado when it had the Isuzu 3lt motor. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Rob & Marcia
Hi. My two bobs worth. I bought a new Hilux turbo three years ago and it is perfect for MY towing. On saying that I never had any intention of going off road or bush bashing so I didn't need 4wd. Saved heaps of dollars and never regretted the decision once. Bought an Extracab cos with only two of us I didn't need 4 doors just a bit of extra cab space in the back. Great vehicle. Col P
I purchased a second hand 2010 Toyota Xtra Cab some time ago. Its only 2WD, 4 litre Petrol with canopy on back and low klms, extremely well looked after.
I brought it originally to tow my 4.5 metre aluminium boat and as with Colin, don't need extra space in the cab except for the other 2 members of the family - the better half and our dog Misty.
We don't need to go off road either and the 2250 tow is perfect (with a lot of leeway) for our new Starcraft poptop.
It will be interesting to see what fuel efficiency we get from the 4.0 litre petrol.......but so far its been great and suited our purpose.
We had a couple of BT50's in our work fleet and the drivers said they were great vehicles. We also have couple of Ford Rangers and they also said the same thing.
If I wanted to change from the petrol Toyota to diesel, I have no idea of what I would look at and would certainly be asking the same question as you.
