Merc fine..(The best)

Jayco. === JUNKO.

At all levels. Shame to spoil such a good vehicle.

There are much better on the market in same price range bracket I would think.

PS. Nice Doggie..

Had a bull Terrier/Bull Mastiff a few yrs ago. 47kg of pure muscle and teeth.
Granddaughters loved him. Always riding his back on the beach.
NOBODY came near them.

yawnyawnyawn 47 KILO...!!! Yea ... most misunderstood breed out there, that's a mini ,this was Porky http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/vik351/100_1015.jpg

So Macka, what should I look for...??? had a look at some  Jayco caravans 2010 era and could only find one with a screw missing from a door latch, and even the screw was on the table waitin to be put back in... Expect the same fit out in a MH...

Only plan on this type of MH  as a "dipin a toe in the water" to see what it is all about, was gunna go smaller with an ex rental hack, but the 2 boys said they would use what we got so 2 berth was out...

SWMBO  didnt like the rentals much, bit too pre loved...!!! no

vik... tell me folks...

Why is there so much angst toward Jayco? Yes, they are built to a price - perhaps the price most of us can afford.

In most areas (including off the beaten track) out five caravans, there will always be at least one Jayco! Besides 70,000+kms isn't much in six years (well, in the way that I do them) - I'd be more concerned that the vehicle has received regular (distance + time) servicing.

My advice would be to inspect the unit & make your decision on that.

Ya got me beat Warren...??? Got to knock something I spose, when I was in a 4X4 brand club it was them and us mentality... Remember when Volvo came out with lights on cars... awwaww poo pooed by all and sundry... now look DRL all over the joint... The Jayco vans over ten years old I looked at didnt look X army units...

Treat them right and away ya go,as for the vehicle, the only thing that has got me worried is the Bluetec zorst gizmo if indeed this model is one, that and if the book aint stamped it will be see ya ta ta...

vik... too many gizmos,no thanks...

How heavy is the Caravan (ATM) To me Sprinters can tow around 1800-2000KG depending on Model/year. Later vehicles more.

And what about the towball weight of the caravan, also depending on model/year Sprinter towbars can only take between 120Kg to 200Kg.

Hi vik351,

We have a 14 year old Sprinter campervan done 190,000KM now & still drives excellently & economically. Costly repairs to date have been to the sprintshift auto hydraulics here in Tassie & high pressure fuel pump when travelling in Qld  2 years ago  (Also the tilt tray tow in to Monto & then on to Bunderberg cost the RACT about $1000 + our accommodation  costs etc.).

I am not mechanically minded but have been advised to have  the injectors loosend & retightend   every 70-90000KM (not mentioned in the service manual but apparently a known problem) as they can become welded in & then cost more to repair the engine than its worth- don't know if this applies to the later models but I would suggest you research this & have them checked pre- purchase as the cost is minimal.

Bil has a Jayco Motorhome fit-out on a VW Crafter (3yo when purchased) & is very savvy on electrics & after installing solar panels etc. decided to rewire the whole 12v side of the motorhome when he seen the poor workmanship of Jaycos efforts- so might be an area to have a good look at.

Regards

David

Thanks for that Peter, I just looked at caravans internals to see the finish of them, The Sprinter I'm lookin at is with a Conquest home on it. not a caravan to tow.

Thanks for that tip daffyfrancis... will keep that one in mind if I buy the thing.

Came across this yank blokes site, pretty good and true, and nothing new from "the old school" change your bloody oil on time and everything else...good read actually...

www.stephensservice.com/oil-related-failures-to-engine/

I would change all body fluids first thing along with all filters,belts...??? Hoses...??? what ever looks in doubt...!!! They havent had drain plugs on a trans sump for yonks, so while it's off change the trans filter too...

Ah yes, the joys of a humpy on wheels... As for solar wires, gee how bad must they have been...???

vik... I will make sure I see if it works ,sun better be out !

Hi VIK, if it is a 2010 model all the "nasties" will surely have come to the surface and been fixed. If it looks ok then it probably is, have a good look and take a damp meter with you to check for any previous leaks. People seem to love or hate Jayco I have never owned one but they have a big slice of the market so must be doing something right. Keep us posted on how the viewing goes.

Love or hate alright...sheesh...confuseyawncry

Spoke to a rep the other day and the story he told me is the Hate comes from the tightarses who buy a new one outa the box, want a silk purse from a Jayco, then it's crock tears when a screw falls out and all the other faults show up...

They get the bugs sorted, mostly,THEN another screw falls out...!!! RIGHT ,thats it ...!!! SOLD...

I come along, purr chase the afore mentioned BEAST... all gremlins fixed, me happy as Larry, knowing it aint a Paradise Oasis and it's a 1/3 of the price...

Treat it for what it is and ya cant go wrong...plus the fact if something didnt go wrong I couldnt have a fiddle...

Adelaide is still in the storm mood today, havent even been out doors...  http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/video-wakeboarding-through-flooded-vines-at-lake-breeze-wines--langhorne-creek/news-story/ad7d837a72ed85f1cc06717202ee7989

Vic. We have a Jayco Conquest 2011 on a Merc Sprinter v6 turbo diesel. The Merc is brilliant. Heaps of grunt and great traction in the soft stuff. Jayco's reputation is undeserved. Have seen complaints about all brands of vans and motorhomes. Jayco just has more on the road. This is our third Jayco. Certainly there are some issues at purchase but their after sales warranty is excellent. We greatly enjoy our Jayco and plan to keep it for a long time. It has been awesome. Good luck with it.

 Thanks Phil

I dont know what all the fuss is about either, six year old bus, second owners and I couldnt see the road through the floor or the sky through the roof... cept through the sky light... everything we touched worked opened and closed, with the rain we have had here, no leaks either.

A question about the donk Phil, couldnt see a blue tec filling point, are this V6 model non blue tec...??? Not that I know much about it, cleaner soot etc, but more stuff to go wrong...???  The old fella wasnt sure about stuff like that, just said he was getting good MPG from it...biggrin

Yours the 5 speed auto...???
