I cooled off on the house up in the Flinders Rangers. Had a male friend go up there and have a look at it for me. It is full of white ants (has just been treated) one complete wall needs coming out and then he said it also had asbestos.
I was disappointed but guess ever thing has a reason attached to it. Wasn't meant to be.
But funny thing is he found a nicer little home in the Southern Flinders (well so he says) in a little town called Laura and I just love that name also.
So will go and look at that next weekend.
If I like it and buy it I might still keep my van so that I can still go up around North (SA).
Worth living in Laura just to be where Golden North icecream is made.
Lovely little town, not too far to duck down to the big smoke for supplies if needed, and at the gateway to some great country.

Thanks hewy. I forgot about the ice cream, maybe they will hire me as a taster, get the sugar in my brain going!
Yes, the country around there is un spoilt - not sure for how long though, seems to be lots of 4x4's tearing up the roads.
Why not buy a 4x4 motorhome to last another 20 years and forget buying a house? Just a thought. We're not here for a long time - sounds like you would be very sad to give up your van. Marie
The idea that I have o follow up, is that in some counties, you can build a certain class shed, ceilings, sewage, running water etc. And live there. Just make it so you can park the van or motor home along side and walla you have a home base with storage, but also take off when ever you feel like it.

Well, I have thought of that and sometime back looked at a block in Adelaide hills with a nice big shed on it but had no power or septic. Nice small town only 65klms from Adelaide. Flat block and nicely treed. $65,000
Power was on the fence line. Water is connected, both pretty essential I think.
Any other ideas would be good to hear about.
Mind you if I did that I could never afford to build on it. I could upgrade my van though.

Yep, did it.
Built a 6m x 12m carport. Enclosed the western end of 6m x 3m which was then dividen into 2. One was bathroom, vanity and composting toilet. The other laundry and storage. Drive through on the eastern end of 6m x 3m to park the caravan with a 6m x 6m breezeway in the middle with outdoor setting and outside kitchen. Eventually got rid of the caravan and enclosed the eastern end which is my bedroom and living space. Camperd up the Landy which is my get-away vehicle now.
Couple of rainwater tanks with an instantaneous LPG (8.5kg) HWS and the benign central Queensland coastal climate and the living is cheap and easy.
Riverboats aren't cheap. If any good.
Also the Annual maint, is not to be laughed at.
if you want to keeep it at value and not sink on you
A lot have.
Check up thoroughly first.
Slipping fees. Berthing fees at Marina.
Antifouling and any repairs.seals bearings renewing regularly.
to keep her afloat.
Not as cheap as standing on a pr of wheels.
Hi everything has cost. Full slipping with painting of pontoons, insurance inspection and environment certificate etc was $1600 mooring in a locked marina with every thing except power included(I am going full Lithium similar to bus so after set no cost)
Fuel won't be much as I can steam for 1 hour for 3 lines of petrol and insurance was $360 for year.
Everything has a cost it depends on the life that cost gives.

That is what I want too. I would so love to know what States of this country you can still do that in.
There are quite a lot of those type places available to purchase already set up for van and facilities. Can be found in most states, they are usually marketed as Weekenders in order to get around the legalities of not being for "permanent" abode. With a caravan or similar on wheels it usually satisfies the Local Shire regulations. Look on realestate.com for the area of your preference. Only yesterday I discovered at least ten in my area of preference on land varying in size from one acre
