At the very beginning, where many of you have been, looking for the best way for a 71 year old and his beautiful wife. We don't know how or when but if is 3 months we would probably hire a camper van- if a year buy and resell same. THanks.
May I be one of the first to welcome you, and your beautiful wife to the forum
I received this advice many years ago, (which I did not take), from some very experienced travellers Before you outlay a lot of money on a rig, you may or may not like, or adapt to Hire what you think you would like, for a week. Just to see if it was what you wanted
While learning the ropes, so to speak, and speaking to other more experienced travellers on the road, I have come to a conclusion, so I could be wrong If a person is ready, willing, and able, to adapt to whatever type of travelling vehicle they have, then it really makes no difference what they do the lap in.
The bottom line is that if you enjoy yourself, you will have many happy memories. I sincerely hope that you have a very good and happy travelling around Oz trip ahead of you
Hi Zendo and beautiful wife. Welcome. I hope you find how to do it. You'll possibly become addicted and need a permanent rig in the end though . I've pretty much lived this life for the last 35 years. Last 6 years being my latest permanent stint.
You'll find all manner of helpful advice here.
Hi Zendo welcome to the forum, we have had some experience with hiring motorhomes for 2 or 3 week stints. Our last trip was the top end in a 6 berth Maui out of Darwin (just the 2 of us) had a ball but not having any transportation other than the motorhome limited us a bit. After getting back from that trip we ordered a new Sunliner motorhome but had a rethink and canned the order, we decided it was better to upgrade my Kia Sorento with the Pajero Sport and buy a new Retreat van for less than half the outlay. Each person has their own preference on how they want to travel this country and how much money they have to spend will play a big part in the decision. By the way if you do decide to hire a motorhome keep an eye out for special deals, different times of year and the location have a big impact on the rate they are prepared to offer you.
Hey - we knew a couple with an '80's model falcon station wagon, and a two man tent - been travelling for NINE years like that - we met them in Tassy, they have been right around, up the cape, up the middle. They did upgrade to a Nissan Urvan campervan.
