To get my LR licence endorsement i just did a driving test and a few questions about checking vehicle walking around it ie mirrors tyres lights. Simple but remember to come to a complete stop at a stop sign stop wait 2 or 3 seconds then move off, I got that lecture, good luck
Test is easy (study the book) multiple choice thing
Big issue with MR and higher licences is medical requirements.
I had MR and with diabetes and sleep apnoea required annual specialists reports.
Downgraded to LR (treated much the same as a car licence) now a GP can sign off and needed every three years (in my case that is) much less hassle and a lot cheaper
I did as Mike C did, and for the same reason - passed the HR test but when I learned about the annual medical checks downgraded to LR. Now only need medical every two years (in Qld). Written test was easy - 10 multiple choice with fairly obvious answers once you've studied the rules relating to heavy vehicles, plus you can go online and do some practice tests. I think about four of my 10 questions were among the practice sets. With the driving test, I was told that when the speed limit reduces, ensure you are at or below the slower limit BEFORE you reach the sign. Also, make it obvious you're constantly checking all mirrors.
