Hello,
I have just joined the site and I was after a bit of technical expertise.
I have a 24v caravan mover that is powered by 2 x 12v batteries in series. I have had an additional battery box fitted to the outside of the caravan. I have a 12v 20 amp Calibre charger I would like to connect an anderson plug to the battery clips and run the cable up to the front of the A frame so that the batteries can be charged using the charger and also to provide an anderson connection to power the tractor mover.
Can the charger recharge the 2 batteries in series?
Thank you
May I be one of the first to welcome you to the forum
Usual disclaimer that I am not an Electrician, and do not have any 24 volt systems While waiting for an Electric teckie to give you a precise answer, I will have a go and give a layman type answer
I am led to believe so therefore open to be proved wrong, that a 20 amp 12 volt battery charger will not be able to charge 2 x 12 volt batteries wired in Series I am led to believe that the 2 x 12 volt batteries wired in Series becomes a 24 volt system
You will require more than 24 volts to charge a 24 volt system, You will have to obtain a 24 volt battery charger, which (depending on the type you get for your batteries) will be outputting around 28 volts
If I may also use Tony's disclaimer also not a electric tec but no you cannot charge 24 v hook up with a 12 volt charger you need a 24 volt charger for that .
Not the answer you wanted but "such is life "
