I wanted to do a road trip camping to Sydney in December to try out nice spots for paddleboarding and saw that free camps are not really looking that good an option anymore.
Can anyone suggest some not too expensive caravan parks for camping along the coast that would be suitable?
Having a conversion done on a VW van and it will be ready for January.
So, guess I will have to sell my car down there. I don't have the toyota anymore, just a hyundai and tent.

As far as cheap van parks go. there is a huge variation in pricing.
Basically though.
Further out of main towns.
The cheaper they are.
Economy is "camping sites". Unpowered.
LED lights. and maybe mobile 80w panel with battery in boot.
have 20 or 2 x 10ltr waters in boot.(behind seat.)
Campsite will give ground. Water. sink drain? and access to showers.
Have Tablet with some movies and ph with music for entertainment.
Charge them during day with cig, lighter.
A free standing twist open/close. Shower/toilet tent is good too.
Gives you the privacy you need occasionally,
Specially being a female.
to stretch, strip, change. IN PRIVATE
when others around,(If you have a SMALL tent.)
$50/60 well spent.
And all those bits will be useful in van too, later.
I went round on a 600cc dirt bike yrs ago, with a tarp to cover me in wet and sail bag for clean gear on rear panniers.
THAT.. is no privacy.. Then some.
and Emu's LOOOOOOVE the sparkling spokes spinning on your front wheel.
ALwayyyys. the front one.
I ended up spray packing both mine with matt black.
to stop them trying to tip me over the bars.
One succeeded.
Ended up in Bourke hospital on a Sun morn for X,rays.
Rode bike back to Adel with one hand and a prayer.
Ripped tendon anchor off left shoulder. Arm worked from elbow down.
But top half of arm went nowhere. Juuust swingingggggg.
Oh. And a lot of painkillers from Hosp too.
Single travel is great. BUT. Be self sufficient. Mentally too.
YOU have to fix everything.
You never know.
But it's great......You'll love it.
I've done it most of my life. Mainly with yachts.
Ellenborough Reserve- inland from Port McQuarie via Wauchope (NSW) is a great spot for a couple of days or more. There is a river, and toilets (long drop).

Which way do you intend to go to Sydney? Being December it's also tourist season on the coast - I would definitely consider coming down through Beaudesert and Casino and inland as far as possible to avoid the traffic. Also you will find way more free camp sites and friendly country people. Let me know if you decide on this route and I'll give you some tips ....
