Look at it another way, the banter, the thoughts, research, hands to keyboard, rude or loud words, etc. all help to slow that onslaught, and perhaps raise the blood pressure.

Recently came home and found that the daughter had put diesel into the ride on mower. When I asked, why would you put diesel ino the mower, she replied .... What's Diesel Dad? ...

Ok, here's my 2 bob's worth from a guy who has done it...

In older diesels, i.e. Indirect and direct injection, around 5% to 10% is generally ok and shouldn't do any damage. Did this myself a couple of times with an old Toyota 1HZ motor with no ill effects.

If yours is a common rail diesel (CRD), then my advice is DO NOT DRIVE IT! CRD engines run rail pressures around 26,000 psi (yes you see that right!). The injectors and the pumps are built to incredibly small tolerances and petrol can (and will) destroy them. Equally, water is the biggest enemy of CRD injectors and even a small amount will ruin them very quickly. CRD injectors can range around $400 to $800 each, plus labour. Some injector pumps will set you back $10,000.

I did do it once with a Toyota V8 CRD, but fortunately realised before I started it and had it flat bedded to a nearby workshop and drained the tank.

The choice is yours...
