We are travelling up to Cape York and wants some advise on how far should we take our camper we have a 2015 Jayco penguin off road. Also places to store it.

Welcome to the gang 4wdnoz, enjoy here and out in the playground.

As I have not been to that area yet I will leave it to others to answer your question. Maybe do a search in the 'Search' above in the thick blue line.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

G'day 4wdnoz and welcome to the forum.  Plenty of good folks and good advise here.  As Dougwe has stated try the search bar as this has been discussed before.  We've only done some of the west side of Auz so far so cannot help from own knowledge.

Hi 4wdnoz
I was up there in june last year, the road is now bitumen all the way to Laura with some long sections of bitumen beyond there, the Laura Pub has camping and a locked yard beside to store vans I left my little van there, there was 15 other vans there at the time I think it cost $4.00 a day,

If you are going up now its late in the season the road will probably very rough, I went up to the tip on the bypass road and being early in the season the road was very good following the graders most of the time, don't miss going into Fruit Bat Falls.

Hi Leanne welcome to the forum, as Lawson said there are storage options available at Laura where you could leave your Jayco rather than risk damage and there are accommodation options available on the way up to the cape, hope you have a great trip.

We did it quite a few years ago when the Development Road was all dirt. But now the road is being slowly bitumised... according the Dept of Transport & Main Roads QLD facebook page:

"Travelling to Cape York is about to become a whole lot easier. Check out the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) being transformed from a dirt track to more than 274km of sealed road. {video included on FB page}.

By the end of this year about 60 per cent of the PDR will be sealed, improving access for locals, freight transport operators and tourists travelling to Cape York.
This is part of the $260.5 million Cape York Region Package, already benefiting the community."

There's always the Old Telegraph Track if the bitumen gets too boring for you. biggrin
