Hi everyone, Hubby & I have a dilemma, can anyone give a recommendation for any of these three suspensions? Cruisemaster XT, Alko Enduro Outback, or Tuffride by Roo Chassis & trailers?? The dealer says Tuffride!! but not sure, We are leaning to either Cruisemaster or Alko ? any thoughts ?? does anyone have any of these suspensions?? Any Ideas, we are confused!!
Do a check on Net as to which vans use which suspensions.
Then go and look at.
Ask Dealers. Ask people that have them.
Personally. After over 20 yrs with "simplicity" suspensions under my last 3 vans. I'd be looking at theirs.
A Victorian ENGINEERING company. Supplying their suspensions up to around 40 ton to military trailers
for decades.
My single and Tandem units have never missed a beat.
These trailing/leading arm units are more modern technology.
Will be Derived basically from their existing rocker units.
supplementing the inverted leaf springs for coils I'd think.
Then separated.
Their base units are too well designed to need changing.
They would have really tested their spring/shocker system out first.
and their units never give problems. Overbuilt..
Which is what you want if serious...
A lighter, single axle van, I'd be looking at the ALCO rubber susp.
NO moving parts to break.
just a swinging arm set on a big rubber bush.
I had a boat trly with them 40 yrs ago.
That also never missed a beat. SO they been around.
AND selling, for a loong time.
Early ones had a few (long ago fixed) problems
Don't get sucked into the "hype" of "This one is better than that one".
They're ALL the best of the best...(if you listen to them)
Get the one that looks the simplest. LESS bits and good welds on decent box sections.
with a reputation.
Preferably with "greasable" knuckles if you doing water crossings etc.
"Sealed for life" NEVER are.
Also ask who's coils they use.
King are about the best in this country.
Shockers.I always use EFS.
well proven to me over, again near 40 yrs of use on 4wd's. that went,
4wding and towing.
Have fun. But don't buy a RED one. or a YELLOW one. Cause being a woman.
You like the colour.
MY missus does, Specially with bloody cars. chuckle.
Actually my favourite colour is purple but don't think they do one that colour!! lol!! thank you for your advice much appreciated. I guess they are like ford & Holden, everyone has their own preference, Alko uses its own shockies & 3 year warranty, Cruisemaster has 2 year warranty not sure what shocks it uses? tuffride I think use EFS? I will have to check
I also like green!! LOL!!
I like the Simplicity independent we have on our Regal, mainly because of its load sharing capability, if you look at some of the big guns of off-road van makers
they tend to still use this type of a suspension as it has proven success and only offer coil independent as an option.
and the other half of that suspension drives the punctured tyre/rim into the ground. you have to stop as soon as.
Iuse a horizontal line along front of van when mobile.
to keep a check on it.
Also. I welded a coupla rings on rocker end and chassis rail above. and shackled a length of chain in there. Short enuff that the flat rim stayed OFF the ground. (Trial and error) leaving room for the tyre not to be ripped apart
Their "new" system will be using the welded units with coils and shockers in place of inverted leaves.
And not rocking in centre of. remove fault of one wheel stuffing other tyre when flat.

Thanks guys, appreciate your comments thinking of going Alko Enduro Outback has King Coils, EFS shockers, Australian steel, thicker stub axles, 3 year warranty & Australia wide backup

I don't believe that there is any value whatever in independent suspension on a caravan.
Traditional leaf spring suspension is cheap, reliable and robust, what is more it has the best roll centre so is potentially the most stable.
Most independent suspensions are non load sharing which is a serious backward step.
All suspensions should incorporate shock absorbers.
