Yes this is a 150 psi so I should just try untill I can get it near the mark?

Need answer if you have bought a thumper air compressor from 4WD Super Center.

Used mine for the second time Friday evening to bring the tugs tyres up to towing level. The insert for the safety valve blew out and I managed to find it just as we were leaving.

Question How far does the insert screw back in, if you have this compressor and can check and send a photo and measurements it would save me a trip to there nearest store.

G'day CC Bear,

I don't have that unit, but do work with safety valves in one of my hobbies - model engineer - live steam locos. Looks to me as though the release / set pressure is set by the internal spring so I would assume it should be screwed fully in.

Only my 2 cents worth however :)

The specifications say that it is a 150 PSI maximum pressure

It is hard to see how far the blow off valve is screwed into the thread

But...

The gauge as per the picture below shows the start of the red line at about 113 PSI, or 8 Bar

The more you screw the blow off valve into the thread, the higher the pressure is required to overcome the spring tension, and lift the plastic type seat, to allow the blown off pressure to escape

When you have set the blow off pressure to what you want, then tighten the lock nut

As a side note, I have never come across a vehicle with tyre pressure any higher than about 105 PSI
The tyres on my RV are a maximum pressure of 80 PSI

I have one of these and find sometimes when i connect it to the tyre and then start it up to pump it wont!! , been told they dont like starting to pump against a charged head ??. So what i do is start it and then connect to tyre and let it pump it up and have no probs thaT WAY..
