Hi all. My wife and I traveled around the great Australia for a year back in 2005. We are now thinking of moving over there on a permanent basis and becoming transient grey nomads now that we have two sets of grand children and other rels in Aus. So in a sense were are re-cycled grey nomads.
I am sure there are other Kiwis doing the same thing - perhaps for the same reasons. Having worked all our lives in NZ and paid taxes all that time we would not be thrilled to lose the entitlement to our New Zealand super payments if we did move over there to have more contact with our grand children.
So we would be interested in hearing from any other traveling Kiwis who are in receipt of the NZ super while travelling in Aus. We are in contact with WINZ or whatever they call themselves now and await the official line but we don't know that we trust them that much.
We would much rather hear from someone "on the ground" as it were who have experienced the process of gaining the entitlement.
G'day Dobber 7 and welcome to the forum. Plenty of good advice and folks on here. Can't help on the NZ super however but there are plenty of Kiwis on here so someone should be around soon to help.
If all else fails try reposting in the general section as not everyone checks out introductions.
Welcome .There's no social security for NZ citizens since 2001 . As they say it's NZ's gov problem ! If you have your own super ? Talk to your super fund over there . Same with NZ old age pension . Ask over there . Everyone is different . Age and assetts etc ..If you grew a beard it may change saying reffugee ? Lol. https://www.dss.gov.au/about-the-department/international/international-social-security-agreements/current-international-social-security-agreements/australia-and-new-zealand-frequently-asked-questions#02

Thanks Aus Kiwi. As stated we are talking to WINZ but they have yet to reply. From the web site it seems that we do qualify for the NZ pension or superan when we are living in Australia but we just want some confirmation which the department should beable to supply. There is very little in the way of private superan funds in NZ as some have gone under and consequently people quite understandably steer clear of the few that are left. The government see the whole super issue as a political hot spud.
As we said we were just interested in the experience of others.
We had some $$ in Hanover .. I know about failed finance.. Doesn't hurt to leave investments there ? Although now retired ? It doesn't matter . Rather pay %10 tax there Nathan adding to my PAYE !!
And it's welcome from us two2 Dobber7 and I can't help with your question either

Thanks again Aus Kiwi. Itlooks like Aus, have reciprocal arrangements regarding pensions with a number of countries NZ being one of them. We seem to satisfy the criteria laid down. So it looks like we do have an entitlement to apply for an Aus pension when we are living over there. Means tested of course which it is not here. The previous social security agreement went out the window several years ago according to the department here.
