We were traveling from Lake Thomas at Bywong to our Base Camp at Peak Hill. The opportunity came up to put both the tow vehicle and rig over the Weighbridge at Cowra NSW. A very nice medium size town on the Lachlan River for those who don't know of it. Lachlan Fertilizers on the Boorowa Road provide a public weigh bridge. Cost is $20- only need to drive on to the end allow 20 seconds for total mass reading before moving tow vehicle less than 5 meters un hook and you have the number for the rig.
Very helpful and friendly people.
We are towing 23' Jayco Outback with 2013 Toyota Cruiser. The total Gross Mass 6.28 breaking down to 3.20 for the Rig and 3.08 for the Cruiser. We had some additional gear on board as we were between our storage point and our base camp.
We are full time "Nomads" and exercise was just confirming our "weight" as to say. Water, fuel, even full toilet and people on board.
We are 3+ years into 5 year caravan adventure and must say the Toyota "Cruiser" diesel and the "Jayco" Outback are what makes it happen and allows us to achieve life long memories and put us in places that you could only dream about.
First weigh is whilst still connected but the tug and van on their own weighing platforms. This gives 3 weights, 1/ the van axel weight 2/ the tug weight with towball weight included (possibly for each axel if a 4 platform scale) 3/ the combination weight
Second weigh gives 3 weights, 1/ the van's gross weight 2/ the tugs gross weight (without towball weight) 3/ the combination weight
Every council dump has a weigh bridge so they can bill the commercial businesses who use the dump. Our local dump is in the Moreton Region of Queensland and they are more than happy for you to run your vehicle and van over their weigh bridge at any time for free except on the weekends. Worth asking at your local tip. Maybe a six pack wouldn't go astray to the dump supervisor.
