re sale value?

I've located a VW campervan 2016 with only 8800km, it suits me perfectly but here;s the catch...................1 single bed ( I'll be travelling solo).   Down the track when I get past travelling will it hold it,s value like a a 2 birth or should I keep looking?

Interesting thought, myself if it ticks enough boxes I buy it, use it knowing it maybe a bit awkward to get rid of it later but by then I have truly enjoy it. Take a small loss.

When you go to part with the campervan knowing you got it at good price you will be able to on sell it at good price possibly attracting another solo traveller.

Why have 2 beds when you only need one, you say travelling solo so it will suit your needs and I imagine it would adds room to the living area of the camper van helping to make the van comfortable for one only.

Maybe also place this topic in the Solo Greynomads section, the good people on there would possibly give you a better ideas, should you buy or not to buy that lay out.

Hope this helps in some small way.

My thoughts would be that a single berth campervan will hold or lose value at the same rate as a a 2 berth unit and quite possibly being worth more further down the track when getting on in years. A single unit will have more space which is a definite plus.

Good Luck.

My thoughts for you to chew over
If it ticks all your boxes go for it
I wouldn't think that there will be any less demand for it when you are done with it than there is now as there will always be singles looking for a rig now , next year , in five years , in ten years time

I have a 2010 VW fitted out and spent some money on it ie a rear annexe.  I was offered more for it than I paid the other day,

but I bought the van to enjoy so not worried about what it will be worth down the track.

I find my VW excellent to drive and easy to set up, so far no problems.

Thanks for your imput peoples, Yes radar it ticks all the box's for me and a bit roomier than having 2 singles in it..................and I intend to enjoy it for many years
I've been chewing it over for a couple of weeks Woody N Sue, internet searching and keep going back to it! I like your philosophy hako
adreamer as far as I can see I only need to spend extra on that rear annex to get full comfort value for me.

Guess I'l book a trip detour next week and personally go and check it out, excited and nervous at the same time, but figure it's an as new campervan and keep the maitainance up and I should get many years of touring without major problems.

Hi Roundthebend

All looks good even upside down (spent some time trying to fix that, not smarter enough), appears to be very comfortable.

Enjoy.

Yep.....back in the day I took a hit on my house and probably lost my super......but it was better than me getting crook and dying. We only have ONE crack at it mate. Got to enjoy it. I firmly believe my signature line down there. He didn't give us a life to live mediocre and unhappy and worrying about things that don't matter!! He gave it to us to live and enjoy!!!
Yep...see you out here - you won't find me in a city lol. Today's little lot in Melbourne reconfirmed my desire to stick away from them and their inhabitants.

Cheers

Well my campervan arrived in Tassie today and is in getting a roadworthy done...........................................got a nice surprise, it already has solar panels fitted, wasn't in the features listing when I looked at it and I didn't look :-S. Nicely done and looks like it was fitted at the time of the frontline conversion ....................BONUS

Been checking everything over and stocking it ready for my first road trip on the 20th when I have friends arriving and will tour around the island with them. Had to make up a fitted sheet as the bed is an odd shape fitting the contours of the side of the van and a bought fitted just wouldn't sit right. So going the whole hog and making a matching doona cover as well all in retro paisly in bright colours....................just for fun

Good on you Roundthebend - hope you enjoy your time. At the end of the day the little that you may lose at the end will be made up in the wonderful times you will have travelling around our great country. Just remember you bought it for yourself so when the time comes to sell another solo will probably come along. Have fun.  smilesmilebiggrinbiggrin

Hi Nelly (wave)......................can't wait to get on the road but visitors had arranged things before I bought the van so have to stay put for now. So doing lots of planning................which will more than likely go out the window when I hit the road LOL

Hello roundthebend, where did they put two beds? I bet yours is more comfortable.
The van looks great!

Our van (bought last October) has two single beds - only due to the amount of room we have over a double. More cupboards too & no fights over one taking all the blankets at night (normally me).

Hello roundthebend

I was offline when you originally posted, and have only just spotted your post

It certainly looks like a good rig, and I hope that you have many happy road trips ahead of you

My (only my opinion) thoughts, (before you purchased) would have been

  • Purchase a vehicle/caravan/camper van, or whatever, which ticks most of the boxes for your situation, (which you have already done)
I doubt if many of us, have purchased an RV, and been able to have ticked all our boxes
  • It is better to purchase a newer low mileage vehicle, than an older high mileage vehicle, if you can afford it, (which you have also already done so)
Unless you are a person with some mechanical knowledge, or have friends who are willing to assist in the maintenance of that older vehicle
  • Never worry about the resale value of something, which you have purchased for enjoyment
Just plan to extract as much enjoyment as you can, because just about every second hand RV I looked at, was cheaper than the new price

I hope that the above (only my opinion) thoughts, is helpful to someone in the future, who may look at this post concerning resale value
