Hi folks, Can anyone suggest a way that I can clean the chequer plate on the caravan of road grime and dust, any product that you can suggest, not too fussed on using acid to etch the surface.
There is a product called BLUE used on aluminium fuel tanks and bull bars on trucks. Paint or spray it on and hose off. Truckwash CT18 is also very good for lightly soiled Al Chequer plate combined with a good scrub.
A friend has tried many polishes on his chequer plate and recons Purple brand is the best.
So far I only wash, rinse and hand dry with a clean rag before it dries in air and forms water stains. I guess in time I will need the regain the full bright finish of the chequer plate so will give Purple a go them.
Trick I found with them was leave on for no more than 1\4 hr then wipe ub off again
while rinsing.

Have been cleaned with nothing else
The patrol on selling still glistened and beaded when wet. So do van's.
18 when dirty. 20 for std clean.
Keeps them shiny and my front chequerplate nice too.
Have to look for sale too soon 20ltr drum almost empty.
What the truckies all use for bullbars chequerplate etc. Purple polish, there is a 2 step approach, the first part is a liquid pre treatment that removes all oxidization, then the actual polish bit which strangely purple colour !
Works brilliantly but is still a time consuming job, but once done the polish seems to protect the surface, so the shine lasts and lasts. (did my bullbar early last year and still good)
Another tip I learnt from a truckie with a beautiful rig *, was to forget Truck wash and only use Cussons Morning Fresh detergent as it leaves no residues at all and is mild, cheap but very effective.
*This particular rig was doing the WA to NSW run twice a week and was absolutely immaculate.
I would never use CT 18 again after seeing what it did to my 10 litre garden spayer.(Plastic Body) I mixed up some CT 18 in the garden sprayer and sprayed over the body of my Fibreglass MH.
Left ten mins then used a long handled brush with attached hose to brush and rinse. All up took an hour to brush the whole vehicle. Clean yes but when I went to rinse out the CT 18 out of the spray bottle the stuff had damaged the bottle and it ate away some of the plastic.
I only used two capfuls from the CT 18 in ten litres of water so not too strong.
The sprayer was a Bunnings sold version of your garden spray pack.
Maybe I was unlucky and had a faulty bottle but to me it seems that the CT is very harsh. I won't be using it on my Fibreglass again. I now use dishwashing liquid and find it cleans better and leaves no water marks and isn't as harsh on the paint and rubber.
Sorry,I was't thinking clearly when I posted.The product used on trucks is PURPLE not blue.The marbles are still there but just rolling a bit slower new year festivities I guess.
