Hi all I'm Steve, English & I've been touring around Europe for the last 2 years, now thinking of taking on the Australian big lap starting around October '17. Would welcome any tips especially where to fly into and best place to buy a motorhome if that is best plan as I intend to take a year to explore. Current vehicle is self built fiat ducato high top which is fine size wise.
Welcome to the gang Steve, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I agree, that the Eastern States could be best from what I hear when talking to fellow travellers. Maybe Capitol Cities. Melbourne could be a good starting point.

My suggestion would be to start searching the Internet now for new/used motorhomes so that you will have an idea on both price and availability before you arrive. Obviously Sydney and Melbourne due to their size are probably going to have more to choose from but don't write off looking elsewhere. Heres a link to start you off -
If you are arriving in late October the best plan would be to avoid travelling in the tropics until around April so plan your trip accordingly. Personally I would fly into either Sydney or Melbourne where I would both start and finish my trip. The reason I say this is because not only are you wanting to buy a motorhome but you will also want to sell it again when you leave and these are not only the biggest cities but also the gateway for most international tourists - you never know someone arriving may just happen to be in the market place for a preloved motorhome.
And it's welcome from us two 2 uksteve agree with advice already given just remember to bring your suction cap boots so you don't fall off down under .
