60* to kill bacteria. Then cold water added to prevent serious scalding . Bacteria can live is sub 55* tanks .

Most of us have been using hot water before tempering valves were invented and the last thing I want is a luke warm shower or to wash up with luke warm water.Do the powers that be think we are children? Had trouble with my tempering valve,by-passed it and threw it in the bin.Might be OK for some but I'm sick of other people making decisions for ME. Bureaucracy,regulation and money grabbing..said my bit about tempering valves. I now have the water at a temperature to My satisfaction.

Same here patrol.

Bypassed it 2 years ago. Nobody's been scalded yet.

^^ agree^^ I fitted new hot water service to my ageing parents place . Being the old one was copper it never REALY failed . But lost all its insulation , in NZ most water heaters are inside beside linen cabinet.. It cost twice to have this mixer system installed !! In the end it was disconnected !! They lives like this for 60 years !! The water pressure in house wasn't great . Much improved with new HWS though . No more Ajax valve as in old HWS !!

Yeah thanks for your replies max setting on the tempering valve is 48 degrees it seems ok for showers so I will leave it at that,the thing that confused me was why was the ensuit water temp was so much cooler in water temperature than the sink water, so obviously it appears the tempering valve is only for the bathroom water temperature Makes sense now..

In QLD min allowed IN TANK is 65 from memory, for bacteria.
My Evac tubes on roof get up to 97 b4 cooling kicks in
Cold water input to tubes.
In this weather, they often still showing 60+ at 2 am.

And Tempering has to be set at 49 by law according to plumber installing.
for fear of scalding kids. But he leaves the key.
I reset mine at 53 (in home. Van variable) at laundry sink
with thermometer. Hot enuff for most I'd think.

But I cold shower so heat or not, not a problem.

I removed my tempering valve and now get nice hot showers. There were no adjustments on my valve. Easy job with a modicum of knowledge and skill required.

Could someone tell me where this tempering valve is in a 2013 Jayco Discovery out back please?

Van is in storage 16k outa town ....so cant get underneath and search...AND...as usual with vehicle specific forums...getting the right information easy can be a bloody chore.

Such is the Jayco forum.

It will be within two meters of the hot water heater (I have a starcraft outback) trace the pipes from the hot water heater (red one) from where it comes through the floor.
If you slide under the van about level with the hot water heater and move towards the back of the van where the cold water comes in you will find it easily.
They have a knurled adjustable knob on the end but it can't be adjusted without first loosening off the screw that holds it on. (Without this it will spin around without turning down the cold water supply to the valve.
Mine would only get me up to about 52 C. Good Idea to measure the temp of the hot water out the safety valve on the hot water tank first as that will be as hot as you can get. (just lift the blow off valve under the hot water cover and collect some water into a bucket with a thermometer it it.) You may find it is different between gas and 240.

Mine was close to the hot water system under the van. It has 3 pipes coming to it from the HWS, the cold side and an exit (should be red) pipe. If you remove it you have to change the T piece to the cold side of the HWS to an elbow.

Good luck, just follow the cold pipe from the HWS under the van.

I have never seen a tempering valve without adjustment and I've been in the game for a loooooooooong time.

Are you specifically talking of van valves?

The one on our house is not adjustable, by the manufacturer anyway. I was shown the $2 fix & that works.
