I love the night when it has been stinking hot, the smell of the rain coming, sitting outside, no mosquitos, midgies, sand flies and you are mellow from a few wines, single malt scotch or whatever. The awning is the first hint of rain falling with the sound of the drops just starting to play the melody of rain after a long dry spell. Thunder in the distance, a spectacular light display as you get mellow. The coolness that comes from that first tantalising caress of the rain, the hint of relief of the oppressive humidity of the last few days.
The coolness of the next few hours of a downpour that, not only settles the dust, but settles you to a nice nights sleep. You are drummed to sleep with the comforting sound of rain drops on the caravan roof. You wake up refreshed, breakfast with cereal, fruit and coffee, or tea. You have the radio or television on. Then the news hits, the temperature for the next................................I really hate night like that because it can be guaranteed to be humid, muggy and uncomfortable the next day!

LaL - rain disturbs me too!!! Lol. I constantly check weather and when the rain comes....my heart sinks. This is generally because I'm in the bush and worry about getting stuck. Rain....well more specifically clouds, are just a downer to me. Give me bright blue skies all the time. Although I didn't suffer as badly in the territory in the wet.....the warmth must make a bit of difference. I do TRY to embrace bad weather since I love water so much, but it is hard for me lol. Expecting rain as of overnight for the next few days where I am now......

Poss........I wouldn't be a copper for quids. I can't even stand seeing waste of space people in the street....let alone having to put up with their abuse because society has become so 'accepting'. I'd deal with the lot of them in a very different way than the great unwashed on FB do. I'm appalled at how these people have been allowed to rule the streets. Bourke st being a good example. Utter disgrace that innocent, law abiding people are having to live amongst these uncontrolled ferals under the guise of 'human rights'.

I've certainly had no issues in 5 years in free camps. I'm usually way further off the road than 100m if possible.
I've had two issues in caravan parks. One was some BOS trying to get into the van. He'd had great success with lots of vans over the times, because people were leaving vans open overnight......that I don't get. Lucky for him I had Ross river at the time and had insomnia- his outcome wouldn't have been favourable had he got in (my hatred of losers is huge).
The other was when I was managing a park, so a bit of a different situation (but certainly a consequence of society letting nutjobs walk the streets amongst us!).
There's no way I'd open door at night....I don't care what story they tell....too bad...so they'd have to actually get in before I was in danger...by then they would be.

 Hi crazy cruiser,  you will love Birdsville especially if you stay for the races as well.   Just be well prepared you could get stuck. They had a lot of rain out that way last year and roads were closed.  I went the year before.  Once I turned off the black top it started to rain but it only got a bit sticky in places.  The gravel road is quite rough.  Quite a few were changing tyres along the way and the tyre place in Birdsville does a roaring trade.   Just take it slowly and drive to the conditions.

Cupie, hi , I went and read the article, very good indeed, I was told about wasp spray some time ago, its always at the ready lol, and so is the wite out, infact I have found so many uses for wite out its awesome...Kisha.

I don't keep anything defensive as I have decided that if I hear a Wolf Creek laugh, that is curtains for me! Realistically, how many of us singles are threatened? I felt threatened once, and that was when I was weaned! Camping, Caravanning and in a swag, the threats have always been the same, snakes, spiders, pigs, crocodiles, wild dogs and drugged morons you hit over the head with a shovel!

Other than that, life is pretty good as a pool shark, taking the local population for at least a thousand a night, changing plates and stickers on the van, moving at least 500km a day after a sting and setting up the next sting with a couple of lousy games!

Why would I worry about being alone at night?

And, yes, I am being sarcastic about this post, if you don't like the feeling about the place, it is simple, move! Suss it out first, then leave!
