Hi we are new to the forum. We are renovating our 1996 Compass poptop and need to either replace curtains or fit blinds. Bit confused about the best way to go and what sort of blinds would be best. Any suggestions appreciated
We have black venetians and they are a brute to clean, but look very nice and with dark tinted windows are good blackout. In our previous van we had terylene and a blockout curtain. A good combination and was pleasing to the eye but now outdated. The van prior to that one had only heavy weave pull-across curtains, fashionable for the time but blackout was about 80% efficient. I remember the old Viscounts used to have roller blinds and they became shabby quite quickly. If the cook is handy with the sewing machine then replace what you have in the materials you are comfortable with as venetians are not cheap. It is your call only.
we have had venetians and curtains in previous vans and would go for block out curtains every time. Easily washed, allow airflow around the window but keep it dark if needed. We also had white terylene sheers but I removed them of all windows except the bedroom as they give good daytime privacy .
We found the venetians rattled in the wind and still let in light when closed as well as the earlier poster said, were a bugger to clean. Only way was to take them down and wash them in the bath

My Jayco came with Venetian blinds and curtains but the newer vans now have roller blinds that allow full or partial blockout. I will be investigating if the new vans windows are the same size as the current setup really leaves a lot to be desired.

Venetian blinds are a nightmare to keep clean.
Thoses newer style block out blinds are grwat at what they do but cannot be retro fitted to all windows. If your inner winding handles stick out and are not flush with the walls these will not fit.
Ive considered taking our blinds out and putting up curtains for ease of maintainance.
Good look.

Thanks everyone. Think we will just go with new curtains that we can make ourselves. Great idea only having lace curtains in bedroom. Also never thought of tinting windows as well. This is a great group thanks everyone.
We have the good old fashioned see through white curtains and then draw blinds to pull over those at night time. We wouldn't have anything else. They keep the heat out in summer and warmth in in winter when drawn and let the light in when needed. They are just the same as in a house and can easily be removed and washed in the washing machine.

Net curtains for privacy with main ones opened.
Rubber backed heatproof curtains for privacy and hot days.
LOOK nice frominside.and easy to clean open.
Blinds of al kinds develop a rattle with any opening for fresh air flow.
