Dual Battery System

we have just installed a dual battery system using an Redarc BCDC and Optima Yellowtop battery. Simple set up but I don't know if we should keep using the battery when we aren't travelling ie in the city. Should we leave the fridge in the vehicle. This has been suggested to us as the thing to do but I'm unsure. Any thoughts appreciated

Better to use than have it sitting at home doing nothing or on a small trickle charger. I use a Baintec powertop gel battery and it has the fridge set up all the time. Power either through car or 120w solar panel on roof.

Nice to put the shopping in or pull out a cold beer when needed

i have a Redarc BCDC1220 Dual Battery Isolator System DC TO DC and an Engel fridge permanently on in the tug

Whenever the tug is parked in the garage it is hooked up to a smartcharger via an Anderson plug on the bull bar

Fridge is 6 years old and always been turned on

There is no problem doing this Ger08 as the auxiliary battery in my tug is now 5 years old and still supplying power.

Cheers
Vince

My fridge permanently lives in the tug, although it is not always plugged in. The Waeco cools down quick enough when I want to use it.

Cheers, John.

And as Vince said if need throw a charger on to give it a boost. The baintec has a small 5amp charger built in as well. I have found it to be a good battery system.

Bit of an update on this and some more advice sort. Apparently I have installed the the incorrect BCDC charger as in I have installed the Redarc bcdc1225 when it should have been the BCDC 1225lv because the alternator is a Euro compliant one. Does anyone know if this is major problem or just a minor nothing to worry about thing. I am now completely confused.

I would talk to Redarc techs. They are usually happy to discuss such issues.
