Paddle steamer explosion on SA's River Murray leaves two with burns

An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said she heard loud bangs and then saw dark smoke and the steamer in flames about 1:40pm.

"It was completely engulfed in flames," she said.

It is understood those injured were the couple who owned the vessel.

SA Ambulance said a man and woman were treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital at nearby Murray Bridge.

Three Country Fire Service units attended the emergency.

I agree KFT,  not good for those owners,  I will always remember the afternoon we spent on one of those paddle steamers, Cruising down the Murray, peace and tranquility the whole trip, fantastic way to unwind, just sitting there with a coldie in the hand and watching the scenery sliding by at a very leisurely pace.

Crossed the Murray River on the Wellington Vehicular Ferry a few days ago. Nice relaxing spot.

Wife is in Hospital in Adelaide not ver good by my reports from someone who is a personal friend.
Cause is still unknown. Could have been a gas bottle as stated on Media but I think it may have been steam powered if it was the one that came through my marina aa few weeks before.
That one was definitely steam powered as I smelt the coal and after spending a lot of time with steam grains I recognise the smell so could have been something down below.
