Welcome to the gang philrowe, enjoy here and out in the playground.
"driving tips" hey, well not sure about over the ditch but we drive on left side of the road :) as I THINK you would anyway, makes sense :) Also and as well even give way to people unlike a lot of backpackers. Just had two cut me off at the pass. The most important thing to remember is HAVE FUN.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.
Edit....Just read your profile so it's a big ditch :)

Gday and welcome to the forum, the best tip that I can offer it dont try to travel too many kilometers per day, take your time and talk to other travellers and locals about whats around worth visiting and remember to have a great time out there in the big playground.

G'day Phil, and welcome to the forum. Plenty of great advice and folks on here. Don't forget to try out the two games - Who is This in the I digress section and Pick ThisPlace in the general section. 'Pick this place' is a great way to find new places to explore.
And it's welcome from us tow 2 philrowe as Doug said we drive on the correct side of the road here hmm I have no idea about where you live though,
First rule if it's bigger than you it can have the right of way lol
Stay safe
Perhaps if you look up Vicroads for victoria
And the other states roads authorities you could learn a bit more

Hi philrowe, welcome to the Forum. There's quite a few Kiwis here so I'm sure you'll feel right at home. Don't be afraid to ask questions, just post them in the appropriate section and, as most questions have been asked before, use the Search function first to see if your query has been answered previously.
Cheers, and happy & safe travels
Joe
