Unprecedented Growth in Aussie Caravan and Camping Holidays

This unprecedented growth saw Australians take a total of 11.7 million caravan and camping overnight trips, which represents a 9% increase on the previous year.  The length of time spent caravanning and camping has also increased, with total domestic visitor nights in the sector numbering 51.6 million, growing 16%.

Impressively, this growth is being experienced in every state and territory across the country, highlighting the significant role that the caravan and camping sector has in Australias tourism industry.  Travelling for the purpose of taking a holiday is the reason 78% of Australian go caravanning and camping, reinforcing that a road trip into the great outdoors remains a favourite way to take a break from todays busy urban lifestyles.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia, Stuart Lamont says, The unprecedented growth weve seen in this quarter represents twenty-one consecutive periods of growth in total overnight caravan and camping trips nationally.  The current global environment seems to be encouraging more Australians to travel at home, benefiting local economies and regions right across the country.

Despite challenging local and global economic environments, domestic caravanning and camping continues to show significant growth.  Tourism Research Australia has forecasted continued increases in domestic tourism and it is expected that caravanning and camping will continue to engage more and more Australians of all ages in 2017.

Ya dead right there Baby  !!!  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

It is the sign of the times K.J.

More of us are getting older

Caravanning, if travelling low average kilometres per day, and staying at free/budget camps, is a cheap holiday/lifestyle

Looking around my younger friends and acquaintances, I would guess that their are more poor ones, than rich ones
I will assume that this will means that we will need more free/budget camps

Yes, I have to agree with you there Tony,  Personally we prefer to spend a lot of our time in free bush camps, never had any troubles in all the years that we have been on the road,

When you think about the cost today of staying in Caravan Parks, it's no wonder that people are seeking more cheaper ( and quieter ) camp sites,

It's about time that some more of the local Shires here in the West started to realise that there is a benefit in allowing travellers to stay in free camps near many Country towns, instead of stopping camping in many beach sites up the Coast.

I was looking at updates for my Camps 6 book on their Web Site the other day, "Hell"  there were pages and pages of nothing but closed camp sites listed for W.A. and hardly any new site added at all, it will be a long time before I spend any more of my hard earned, on another Camps Book.
