I have just replaced a lot of hot and cold water pipes under the van.Now the water pump wont go .If i run leads straight from the battery it works.Any ideas?
I had a similar problem with my pump and found the pressure switch was siezed. Because we were out & about I just wired up a couple of manual switches near where I have taps as a temp solution. Then I got prices on the pressure switch and the prices were just as much as a new pump, so my temp solution became more permanent.

I am not an electrician
I would start to troubleshoot the problem, by checking things that are easily checked
Make sure that a fuse to the pump/switch is not blown
See if you had dislodged/loosened a wire, while you were fitting the new water lines
Not knowing what type of water pump you have, perhaps a multimeter to see if you do have power, from/to the pump/pressure switch, when the pump is supposed to be working
If the above troubleshooting does not work, then madaboutled, has probably given you the best advise, for a cheap and quick fix
There is always the alternative solution, which is to take the problem to a repair man, somewhere
You may find that after a while with the van sitting still the pump will take some time to get a head of pressure. Also give the pump a tap on a metal part with a small hammer, this will free up the motor if any gunge has been caught on the impeller.
All the best

Some years ago somebody put up a post on how to wire a relay to the water pump, so the micro switch on the pump only activates the relay. The micro switch carries a fair current (3 - 4 amps ??).
The switch seems to be the main cause of pump failure.
