Hi everyone, I'm new to this, so I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly, but I hope so, so here goes -
We are contemplating caravanning to Broome for the winter months with 2 dogs ( a Jack Russell & a Brittany Spaniel, a little bigger than a ****er Spaniel) & wondering what problems we might come across, any information would be greatly appreciate. kind regards Shirley (Bella)
May I be one of the first to welcome you to the forum
In Western Australia no animals are allowed in the National Parks
If you are staying in caravan parks, you will have to ask, before you get there, if they are dog friendly
If you are free camping, then it is important to keep your dogs on a lead for two main reasons Firstly there may be wild dog baits in the area, which your dogs may find Secondly some undesirables allow their aggressive dogs to roam free, which like to bite other dogs
There does not seem to be many members who come here, and welcome new members
Perhaps if you ask your question on the General Forum, you may get a better response
Bella, Welcome.
If you are travelling with you fur babies ensure that they are on lead whenever not in your immediate care to ensure that do not get any baits spread by local landowners to eradicate feral dogs and cats, they are supposed to put signage out near the baits but sometimes they save the cost - also birds of prey scavenge the poisoned carcasses and drop contaminated meat. Also ensure their immunisations, heart-worm and tick treatments are totally up to date.
Broome is great at this time of year, can be expensive although the overflow camps are quite reasonable (if they are operating).

Thanks very much Doug for answering my question. We have travelled around a little bit with our 2 girls & haven't had any problems. We know that they can't go into National Parks, so we always put them into doggy day care, when we wish to go into those areas, having said that, there was nothing available @ Uluru & Kings Canyon & this was a bit of a problem, fortnately some very nice park neighbours cared for them for a day, allowing us to go into the rock. So this is what we were wondering, is there any doggy day care facilities in Broome or surrounding areas?
Thanks everyone for the welcome & responding to my query.
Hello bella, a very warm welcome. Glad to hear u r responsible dog owners getting the dogs cared for while u r absent. Saw a sign the other day that said dog baits in use. Anyway, welcome n enjoy.
And it's welcome from us two 2 Bella
It's a great place you have joined have fun here .
Now Doug have you sent your uncle Al to visit Bella ?

Hi Bella, I too am a newbie and I can tell you that we were there last year and between about July to September, no Parks will allow dogs except Roebuck Roadhouse about 30 klms out of Broome, but it is very nice there albeit with a bit of travelling.
Outside these times Tarangau will allow dogs, but absolutely take advantage of you price wise for what you get, but then, they all do. Beautiful scenery but Broome is totally overrated. It is also extremely difficult to get in anywhere at the height of the season. Hope you get to visit, it is a beautiful landscape but take your wallet with you. But then we are pensioners so many will not agree! Lol!
Thank you very much for responding to my previous post, but after talking to a few different people, we have decided to leave our fur babies at home & have them baby sat here.
Welcome to the forum Bella. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit. Sorry for the late welcome but just back from a month in the UK.
Bella, we have a beautiful little Jack Russell female who is our adored fur baby. We have always taken her and she is no trouble. Did the East Coast last year and was fine, but we are now heading of on the half lap for 3 mths - up the centre, Kimberleys, West Coast and home across the Nullarbor. It has been the most difficult decision but we are leaving her home (with a loving family) the reality is most of our research has shown where we want to visit is not pet friendly. It is a very long way to go and not see what we want to. For example Bungles, Horizontal falls, Elquestro etc. I sent of many email enquiries and it was a flat no at 80% of places. Hope this is of some help with deciding.
