Vast tv...

I am looking at a Satplus Travelsat kit with optional 3240 handheld digital meter. Have any of you been using this system?

Hi Paul. We've got the motorised version and it works very well indeed. I would suggest that you take into account where you will be travelling when deciding on the dish size. The smaller ones do a good job on the East Cost but if travelling to the far north or west you need the biggest dish. I think from memory ours is 80cm and we've never had any problems receiving stations at all. Dave

Thanks Dave.

I have done a deal with Philip at Satplus Vic for this. It should arrive before the weekend so I can have a play with it before we leave for a few days next week.biggrin

I think you'll love it and I used to manually aim the dish and it's really easy after you've done it a few times. It's nice to have access no matter where you are for me to keep in touch by watching the news. Good luck

Don't be surprised if it takes a while to get a picture. Sometimes it takes time to inform the satellite etc. Took about half an hour when we first did it. Others have said theirs was quick. Go figure

Hi Paul

I have a different dish to you but I do have the Sat Finder and it is worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

Once you have set it up a couple of times you will be quicker at it than if you had to put up a terrestrial aerial.

If you have the Wiki Camps App it has a Satellite finder menu and if using it with a smart phone you can actually see where the satellite is in the sky which helps a lot if you are amongst trees or arent sure where north is.

I rarely bother with my terrestrial tv these days as the vast is so easy to set up.

I might add that it took about an hour for my vast to register and for me to actually receive all channels for the first time.

You have to have the dish set up and on the sat before registering the card, otherwise it wont get the hit to work.

Set the dish up, find the sat, get best signal by tweaking the lnb skew, then register card, leave it up and running till you get all the channels. If no good ring them and they will do it immediately while on the phone.

You purchase a "F" type wall fitting, this fitting is waterproof

Drill a 10 mm hole in the caravan

In the picture below the white plastic on the right, is covering the male thread, you screw the satellite cable to
The wall fitting on the left, is where you attach your TV cable to

Hope that this info is helpful to you

I use this one - "Eze Eye" Through-the-Wall Caravan System - It does not add extra connectors, your lead goes straight to the box. In poor conditions a couple of F connectors could make the difference between a picture or not. An alternative is this one - The Direct Connector

That certainly looks interesting Peter. I have been supplied with the normal one and am reluctant to drill holes yet, BUT cost me nothing with the kit.

I registered the card Tuesday, and today set the dish and receiver up. No problems at all. I did have to find where the local password would be via the Satking website, and after that I had well over 100 channels of tv radio and bouquets whatever they are. biggrin

I was surprised when that this pic was not clear as it is clear on my phone. When I sent to my email I chose the smallest size 35kb, big mistake. I have now sent at 400kb, so will attach it again. Just when I thought I knew everything I learnt something today.biggrinbiggrin

Sat gear arrived from Philip from Satplus Vic, and I set it up very easily at home. Yesterday we came to this camp called Clarke's not far from Mt Franklin in Vic. Only an hour north of home. We need a a few "veg out" days as we are both extremely exhausted.

Goit here late arvo, set up camp and then tried the VAST. Aty 4.40 I could not get it to work so tried to ring Philip and his voice mail said closed at 4.30!! So left a message.

Eril said "well wind up the Wineguard and see what happens. I picked this lovely spot as it had phone and no TV.

Wound up the antenna and pointed to roughly to where the Antenna Mate said, scanned and 35 channels!!!!

I heard phone vibrate at 9.10 and noticed it was Philip so let it ring out.

Eventally got up and get the gennie going for coffee and breakfast.

Time to attack the VAST again, I shifted dish a few meters to a clearer view of where the sat should be and Lo and behold the strength of the audio pitch from the built in sat finder on the actual dish gets louder. Eril calls out we have 75% strength and quality. Yay I said as opposed to the many swear words I had been using!!!!! Went in and found a quality picture.

I rang Philip to let him know his system eventually trained me to use it.biggrinbiggrin

Will add some pics later. doing this on IPad as I brought the incorrect, not wrong as I am NEVER wrong, power lead for my laptopbiggrin

From that angle it sure does John. Size is 75cm. I am very pleased at this stage, no special meter required and also a mount to fit jockey wheel clamp so no need to use tripod in some situations.

Philip did a bit of a deal deal for me so all good.
