Life and its Curve Balls

As you are aware I have been counting down to that day of retirement. Things were going along nicely, although the search for a caravan was proving somewhat difficult.

so it was getting close to the 1000 day mark feeling good going forward when Wham............

Last Tuesday on day 1022......owner of the business ....a motel... suggests I take a redundancy .........not quite how I had the next year or two planned I can tell you.

Whilst the owner is sailing close to the wind his offer was very good and most appreciated after working there for nine years and three months........It could have been much worse if he had waited a few more months and said .......to bad to sad your outa here.

So poor old peachpie is now the sole breadwinner in the household....... I become a house husband...haha.....and on the prowl for another job to get us through to that day.

My suggestion of hitting the road now was met with a stern......get a job so you can buy the van first........

So keeping the dream alive and looking forward to seeing you out there in 1015 days lol

Contact your local shire & see if they need Children's Crossing Supervisors. Not a bad little money earner with little effort & enjoyable. I did it for nearly 3 years.

Bushpie,  yes, I can vouch for the fact that you never know whats around the corner. Enjoy your freedom at the moment, it might not be all bad.

Cheers, John.

Bushy, I got the same offer almost 2 years ago at the age of 59 and like you we paid out our mortgage and now only have our living expenses, my wife is also still working part time. The age pension is 6 years away and with all the changes they are making we may never see any of it anyhow. On the bright side if things do happen to go pear shape like you I have a few years left in me to look for another job. You can only play the cards that you're dealt so don't give up on your dream all you need to do is review the plan on how you are going to get there.

Sorry to hear that your employment ride has stopped, Bushpie

I can feel just a little of what you are going through
I was thrown off my last employment ride at 61 years, never to return to that part of my previous life

Now that your mortgage is covered, you are halfway there, to do whatever you wish

From experience I can say that you do not need an expensive caravan to do the lap

My first lap was in a caravan I purchased for $5,000, which was about 30 years old

The method behind the madness was that
If I did not enjoy, what I had set out to do, then I would have lost nothing

One door closes........another one opens.....and usually for the better.

Good luck Bushpie. Your plans are 3 days ahead of mine (although I already have the accommodation sorted, so I guess that puts me ahead of you lol).

Thanks alll for your good wishes and handy hints.

It certainly will be an exciting few weeks while options get tossed around.

Have also flunked my first interview lol ......first one in ten years.......

Yes possum got all the long service leave......

John ...meetoo ....the freedom is certainly a bonus........freedom to cook meals, wash clothes and dishes whilst job hunting lol

Belmonts........yes to much tinkering with pensions and super makes it an uncertain future for many........fortunate that Peachpie is enjoying her work.

Good to see you have got out there and enjoyed your new life Tony......and yes the cheap caravan or even a camper is now on the table. But I dont think I can convince some one to head off earlier than originally planned......no probs lots to do.....

Ray I noticed you have been getting a couple of workouts in your accomdating future lol. We still have the tent......but I cannot see a lap being done with that lol..

Thanks all again I am sure someting exciting will happen in an update shortly

BTW sad to note that similar has happened to several of us......but the positive Aussie Spirit keeps us going

Hey.

A lot of them get the "stop breathing" Curved ball mate.

Be thankful...
You still doing that.

I've been from the semi mobile 28fters to a 12 ft 6in Rear door van.
And gone round on a 600 dirtbike with a tarp.

17ft van will do all you want.

I sold my last $74k, 6.5 mtr offroader. van,

and bought a '98\99 535 Tandem for $12 grand
with new Air cond in there.

That's all you need. 2 x singles gives the interior floor space.
and room to swing the cat. (he sleeps with me.)
This'll see my last, up to 10 yrs travelling out (75yrs)
With little outlay.

$25\30 grand will buy a nice little reasonable rig with some comfort.

An old Falcon with Early '80's van will do same thing with a little less comfort and reliability.

Old mate I fish with. has an old mid '80's Franklin. with Falcon.
probably worth $8k all up. (Probably not).

He's travelled all over Aust. working and fishing for over 30 yrs with that van
and a coupla cars.
Lovely comfy home he reckons. and when weather gets sh-t. Move.
I installed a water tank under and a HW Service on the outside like mine
for him last yr..

HOT SHOWERS... EVERY Night... WOW.. Says he.
I won't smell of fish all the time now.
And Oil. And Sweat. and farts.

Rent the home out and get out now.
While you can both work.

NO Mortgage, you one of the lucky ones.
Make the most of it.

Lol macca, dont know about the "stop breathing" being a curve ball........I figure that one is a certainty........plan is to do that for a long long time yet.

The lap...... or two maybe is stil on the agenda......followed by numerous trips up north to escape winter........

Have to wait and see what comes up regarding a rig.......maybe peachpie will have the winning Lotto ticket for tonight lol.

Curve balls are ok as you can get to read them and hit them after a while. It's strike 3 ya gotta keep away from mate. Just keep hitting the ball and making runs and all is good.
