to run a bar fridge of invertor

I have a Teco 75litre bar fridge and was wondering how it would handle running off a 300watt invertor and how much draw down I could expect on my battery.

My battery is a 150 amp hour battery which is charged by the car while traveling and a 100 watt solar while camping.

the fridge species say it operates on a run current of 1amp and rated power input of 100 watts.

Any information would be appreciated

Unlikely a bar fridge will start on a 300w inverter woodpecker, the initial start-up might be too big for it.
It will run fine but not start . There is really only one way to find out......
Perhaps you can get the inverter with a caveat to swap for a bigger one if its unsuitable?

Gday Woodpecker

Also need to remember that 1 amp at 240 volts translates to 20 amps on 12 volts. Add in the 80% or less inefficiency of the invertor and you are pushing up well over 20 amps. If you need a beer fridge, go and by a small duel power fridge. Will be much more reliable.

You'd have a roof full of panels,
Trying to keep a bar fridge running OFF mains.
It'd need a 1000w Inv to kick it in Minimum I'd think.

Lot's of us travellers have tried them, over the decades.

Van park every night\don't open during travel. Fine.

Anything else. Get a Waeco. Use 3 way in van for fridge.
Waeco for freezer.
That works well.

Keep Bar fr, in Garage for Barbies.

Hi Woodpecker smile

The other replies tell you the bad side of the story but not all the story.

IMHO the fridge will draw less than 1A when running depending on the power factor. So the DC may be only about 10-15 Amps running. Depends on various things. But that may be to much for your battery anyway It has only 75Ahrs available for long life.

There are some old fashioned transformer type inverters which will start that fridge with that wattage inverter. I have one that will !

Saying a DC fridge will be more reliable is a misleading statement. If you have a suitable capacity inverter and battery to run an AC fridge there is no reason to say it would be unreliable IMHO. Just the capacity of the battery system to run it is the important factor and the DC input to recharge it.hmm

Waeco 3 way fridge might be an alternative way to go. Couild probably pick one up on gumtree cheap enough.

Didn't say MORE reliable Jaahn.
Just more suitable to run on what he has avail.
Maybe just another 100=130w panel and he made.

Waeco type ARE a lot more efficient though in hotter climes.
Home fridges Basically.Have NO internal insulation.
In those clime's it'd be on -off-on- off 24\7.
Just Trying to hold temp down.

Hi Woodpecker,

Lots of useful replies, here's my summary:

1. V. unlikely 300 watt inverter will start the bar-fridge - those with toroidal transformer (e.g. Latronics) stand the best chance. So to do this, you'd need a new inverter.

2. The fridge says 100 watts, so on the 12V side of the inverter that's at least 10 Amps, so your 150Ah battery would only last 10 hrs. Yikes!

3. If you get 5 hours of peak-sun a day (e.g. Perth average) then your 100W solar will give you 30Ah a day - your fridge is using (24hrs x 10A) 240Ah a day - so to run the bar-fridge while camped up (car not charging) you'd need a serious increase in solar power.

Sorry it's not more positive, but it's best to know beforehand, right?

Cheers
