Low water pressure

Hi All, I am sure this as been asked a few times but  I can't find the answer so far. Jayco Journey 2015, so not an old van. Initially water pressure ok  and showering ok using hose supply. But lately the pressure is ok for a few seconds  but then is so low you can't really shower. We end up using the pump and water tanks to have a decent shower. I have taken apart the brass pressure limiting valve, stretched the spring and there was no debris inside. But still no improvement. What is behind the hose connection point? I can see something when i look up through there. Is that where a non return valve would be? Or a filter? Does that hose connection come apart? Any help appreciated.

thanks

Steve

Hi Steve, I have a 2016 Jayco motorhome and the inhouse pump pressure was greater than the pressure when connected to mains. Told Jayco about it and they replaced the pressure valve under warranty. Problem solved.
Cheers,
David.

Hi Stev

Our 2012 caravan with a brass pressure limiting valve cause me some grief earlier this year have owned the caravan a short had been away in it a couple of months before I hooked up to mains pressure to have a shower, I pulled this and tht apart starting from the caravan park tap, changed fitting on the hose, had the hose connected to the brass thing ground water would fly out of it, next I had the plastic JC non return valve hooked up on the ground turned the tap on very little pressure.

I will not tell you what I did with the non return valve but it was not real clever, I then needed a new one.

Our problem was the bass pressure limiting valve all a long. It was jamming it may of been hit by a rock or something in it travels.

At approx $70 to replace and being up in the country I grabbed a plastic irrigation one thats fit on the tap before the hose.

I did post some photos  little while back.

I too had a similar problem it turned out to be gunk in the fine filter at the taps where the hose joins on to the tap, first the sink then the shower now the toot has joined in. I flushed the hot water tank and got lots n lots of hard calcium type chips out of there, couldn't believe how much of it there was.

It's usually the PRV you can pull it apart and stretch the spring, just pull the moving parts out and it back together this will allow a bit of pressure reg or just go to bunnings and buy a new one.....................since any great pressure would blow most hose connections off the tap before the van it's not all that important really unless you use a full blown pplumbing connection to mains.....
As mentioned crud cloging internal filters is also possible, other than the one in line their are also find mesh screens on the tempering valve as well which can clog....I always run the tap before hooking up hose, spent hours once cleaning out a heaps of mashed bugs and grit from my van plumbing after helping GK's hooked water up to Poppys van.............

The filter there is generally just the mesh filter in the washer for the hose fitting. Remove that washer/filter and see what is behind it. If you can't poke a bit of small bore tubing down the hole with the washer removed then there is something in there that needs attention.

Another traveller in a Jayco alongside us recently had a similar problem. He found and replaced the pressure reducer and all good.

We also had a problem recently while away after hooking up to park water tap. Turned out ants had built a nest in the tap and were flushed though to the aerators in the taps. Quick clean out and all OK. Will turn tap on at parks in future to flush before attaching to van. Used to do it before but got out of the habit.

Hi All, Just to carry the story on a bit longer so that maybe someone else may be able to use this information. I pulled the brass pressure limiting valve apart and there was no debris etc and all seemed to work ok. I connected up a hose while it was out of the van and found the flow through it was good. So I put that back into the van. I then rang Jayco and they told me there was a non-return valve just behind the connection to the hose for mains pressure. They also said that this was a common point of restriction as the little valve jams or becomes loose and turns within the pipe. This non-return valve is not needed when you have a pressure limiting valve in line with it, as the brass valve is only one way, so it acts as a non- return valve anyway. So off I go to the van to find this little NRV. I discovered it in an inside cupboard just behind the hose connection point. I pulled it out after removing the plastic pipe held in by a john guest fitting, unscrewed the connector on the back and then I was able to take the hose fitting completely out. I found the NRV was at an angle and I could straighten it up with a small screw driver. I also found an 'o' ring jammed  under the NRV. I assume it may have come form the front side of the valve , a bit like the tap washers that have an 'o'ring inserted into the face. However, I could not remove the NRV in anyway. I looked like it was fitted in when manufactured as a whole piece. Anyway I connected it to a hose and the flow was good. I now have to refit it  to the van and hope that this was the problem all along. The van is in storage so I can't test it until I have the van at home for the next trip. As said previously, I hope this helps someone else in the future. Photos attached
