Well we are here but there is only a few others as yet. Most of our mob arrive in another few weeks time. Yardie Homestead CVP has restricted power, Meaning the use of ones A/C is a big No No.
We came prepared for the heat, with 4 Bunning's fans, 2 pedestal and 2 desk tops to blow on the condensers of both fridge and freezer 24 x7.At the end of our holiday we donate all 4 to the local Opp shop to raise money for the RFD. they sell well.
The next 4 days see the temps stay at 38deg and no winds. The first day we drank all 24 x 600ml bottles of water raising the tent. The homestead distils all its drinking water and we fill our bottles daily.
We had to go back into Exmouth the next morning a round trip of 70km. However Yardie CVP is just 4km from Tantabbide Boat ramp and we are right on Ningaloo Reef.
We jump into the car and turn the key ZERO. Bugger the Engle fridge had finlly killed the original 2012 batteries through the heat the previous day.A one hour charge each had us going, and we made a bee line to Auto One. $$$ later, we are all good with twin 820CCA units.
we are in no rush to get fishing after the long drive.
Our new Euro bed x 2 Got the height we wanted PLUS. Lambie bouncing around all night made sleeping a chore. The air within at night got cold and we needed to fix with a few blankets till we attended the Opp shop in town.
The heat in the tent was bloody hot and we are missing the van even more. I need to tow a combo road train here. So without further a do, over goes the tarp. Well that cooled us down to 37deg in the sun. Hurry up winter we need you. Never will we come at this time ever again. We did in 2012.
Well we launch the boat, with new battery brought from Sydney for the trip. Jump aboard and turn the key, Zero. It started back at the CVP. Dead As. The light in the battery is green, so on to the charger for the rest of the day. Next morning, fires up and we are in business. We troll for a few Spanish Macks and head back to base.
Next morning jump into the boat and turn the key. Zero dead as can be. Off to town to the Auto Electrican, who needs to put it on high charge to test it. 4 hours late we return and he removes it from the charger. TOTALLY DEAD. another battery. He gave us a report saying it has a dead cell, so we can return to Super Cheap for a refund as we keep all our receipts.
Next we go fishing for the big ones. To be continued...........................
Five years for an auto battery is pretty good going. Seems the trip over might have done in the boat battery, all those travelling vibes These things are sent to try us.
It was a Century marine H/D plate lock 730CCA technology battery. I take a new/ same Brand and size every 2 years as a safety item, as we travel long trips seaward.
Never had one do this to me. I was going to replace the originals when we got home with the same Century units for the truck. However they are not available in Exmouth.

PS: Part 6 is coming. have been busy last few days.

Shame about the battery. We got a battery n it lasted 5 mths. shop had to test it for 24hours then they would not replace it until it went back to the manufacturer To test it. All up, without a battery for a week. finally told it is faulty n replaced. Not happy jan. u r going to have a great time . Good read.
Yeah Jim, I guess there's always a chance of a dud or maybe one harder thump doing the damage. Good insurance policy replacing them the way you do though. Nowadays my boat fishing is limited to close offshore, but back in the day we never had a battery fail prematurely, in the relatively small, harder riding boats we ran. Sounds like a bout of bad luck. We had a somewhat similar policy when we ran two stroke outboards. As soon as a spark plug showed any signs of failure, any slight miss at speed, they got the chuck. No use mucking around with them at the price. They were on the way out anyway.
Anyhow, now to tell us about the fishing!
