Tassie December

Hi guys help plz , we are going to Tassie this December 15th -31 st I have booked a motorhome so we could travel around a bit , we were thinking cheap campsites with a stay in a park now and again , I am now starting to panic a bit as people have said we will need to book ahead as it will be busy Would I have been better going B&B and hiring a car or sticking to our plan , we want to see the east coast mainly with a day or two in Strahn we just wanted to follow our nose but don't want to end up with nowhere to stay

There are a lot of free camps all over Tassy = great spot. Over the time you are going, it is the absolute peak - we spent Christmas 2012 at Friendly Beaches, near St Helens - had a great time, lots of people got there, but no trouble at all - we even got some fresh fish of one family. The trick is to get in to a place early, if you don't arrive till 5 pm or so, the places can be packed. I know you said you just wanted to follow your nose, but you need to be practical as well - if you have a motorhome and arrive at a camp, then decide you need to get some bread - odds are you will lose your spot. Not wanting to rain on your parade, but the locals go down to the coast for their holidays - all the way from St Mary's to St Helen's. (50k maybe)

You will always get a spot, I am sure, and look for some of the cheaper places like the one posted just after your post - looks fantastic, and Deloraine is a lovely little town, with a free camp there as well.

Enjoy Tassy - it is a beautiful spot.
