I have a Living Edge van now 2 and a half years old and with the onset of winter I had to wait till midday when things warmed up to get hot water. I removed the tempering valve from under the van so that hot water runs from the heater to the tap.
Hi Greg, I am not sure what sort of HWS you have but I currently have a Girrard instant continous flow HWS and have had no hot water since purchase November 2014. I have tried all the 'tricks' and had it to the supplier in Melbourne, all without success so have bit the bullet and will get it replaced with a Sunburban HWS in a couple of months.

I've got a "hot-tap" on demand HWS.
Nice hot water as long as you don't turn it up full on water flow.
Quite a few camping parks use this one for their camp showers. Fairly reliable it seems.
Mine 2 ish yr old. Never missed a beat so far.
We have set by pool when not on van (Fitted externally)
Sample some water into a bucket by lifting the blow-off valve and check the temperature, this is the best you will ever get. The tempering valve is a safety feature to prevent scalds to the young and "the elderly, we are talking nursing home fodder so don't rib me about this comment " my wife used to manage nursing homes.
If neither of the above protected species inhabit your van and the tempering valve is shot by-pass it!

Have removed the tempering valve from both of my vans so we can have decent hot water and better pressure too boot....Both have had Suburban HWS and found them to be reliable and easy maintenance systems..............Your hWS should be hot in 15 mins so I think there's more to your hot water problems..

Checking out the places I drove past a thousand times................
I have a surburban, and yes I tested the hot water out of both the relief valve and the pipe to the tempering valve, and no matter whether it is gas or electric.
The tempering valve is sealed but would not allow hot water to pass before the outside temperature warmed up.
Check the hot inlet side of the tempering valve, there is generally a strainer/filter which can stop the supply of hot water through valve. If this is the case only cold water will be supplied through tempering valve.regards Adrian.
