OH NO, NOT D SHACKLES AGAIN.....YEP

Anybody like reading lots.
Try going to Federal Towing reg's spec's. for tow trucks.

They all different sizes. using all different rated cables,Chains. Shackles etc.

That would probably be most current. Up to date reg.s.

I couldn't be bothered.

3 ton van. 2 x 3.2tWLL Tested shackles Kept me legal and safe.

Rough roads when we did our 1100kms per day trips.
I also used the old hauling trick of a braided 2.5 ton wire sling from drawbar, to drawbar.
as security.
(Items I already had).

And using the 2 ton WLL Tested, for my under 2 ton van keeps me happy.

Shut the front gate! What a thread this has turned into.

Now, I looked around for a few days for 3t rated beasts but there is no way without filing down will they fit in the openening on the tow bar, no way known to man kind.

The last two places I went to were ARB and TJM. Both said what I said in my opening post.

After reading the link Dick O put up I am covered with my 2x2t rated shackles at 13mm.

I will leave them as I believe they are doing the job at hand.

I really think between chains exactly the same length and crossed, shackles and breakaway unit, Safety is OK.

Maybe the authorities should concentrate on the obviously over loaded rigs.

I'll duck for cover now.

Doug.
Just. As I said earlier.
Cross chains, and make sure the ball cup does not reach the ground.

Van stops real quick when that happens.
Either flips the smaller ones or rips drawbar of rear of truck and whole thing goes careening off down the road.
With NO Brakes actuated. as the whole thing came away and still coupled together..

ALWAYS make sure your cable end is coupled to somewhere ON CHASSIS.
Not the drawbar.
