Obtaining my Licence back.Its official.

Hi all,

I went down yesterday to do my testing to get my Red P's for my Motor Bike. Yes its officialthumbsup.gif. However what a load of BS.

I have ridden bikes for 44 years on and off. However I let my licence laps.

In NSW we have a private company that runs the bike training / testing, which is heavily subsidised by NSW State Government.

I had four young blokes doing the same in my group. Start time 7am sharp. First guy has a missing front right indicator. (all bikes are to be fully road worthy and Resisted.)

One guy arrives 40 minutes late, and was hiring a bike for the test. Cost $180 for the day. Our testing officer (if you can call him that) allows him to join and takes the Credit card payment.nonono

We go through both an on road test ( the instructor rides out the front gate without stopping at the required Stop sign, as required under the testing requirements.) and oral tutorial before the lunch break. Lunch is 12.15pm -1.15pm.

Our officer returns on time and there is only 3 students present. Not his problem, we start and continue without them.nonono

They rollup 27 minutes later.nonono The instructor allows them to rejoin our group.nonono

After further instruction we take our in house test, One to One.

Of all, the required tests is the emergency stop. You must be at 20-25kmph and stop on the measured line. One go only. Miss and its an automatic fail.

My little Honda registered 25km on my speedo on the line. He says it recorded 29km. I stopped well inside the required distance. He says I will let you have another try. BS.

So around I go. Head and Mirror checks and away I go. Nope he says 19km. What a load of BS. I will give you one more go. So around I go, and again stop, well inside the required distance.

So I ask this #%&@* well did I pass. His reply What do you think. I think I would run rings around both you and the others combined.

You Passed.furiousfuriousfuriousfurioussmilesmilesmile

He passed everyone. OMG.crycrycrycrycrycrycry

After he passed everyone's piece of pink paper out. He starts promoting the companies other products.

They hire out Eastern Creek raceway, and you can get on the track for 2 hours @ 20mins x 6 at a time. For $$$$ you can race your bike @ 300km if it will do that.nonononono

OMG. These are kids with bugger all experience, been allowed to control a bike REGESTERED OR NOT @ up to 300km on RED P Plates. Who are they kidding.nonononono

My little bike at 120km watt, down hill with the wind up my ASS.

And what's more I forked out $194.00 to get my licence back.nonono

Shame Shame Shame Stay Upright and the NSW Gov.

JIM

PS: I forgot to say that it is another $26 to have my licence upgraded. I went straight to Roads and Martime to pay and get posted my Lic ASPS. To Date  total cost is close to $500 to have some extra fun in retirement.

Hi Jim

Sound like when i did my security guard license in the early 80's
Only difference was that we did the course in the Guildford pub
So while we were enjoying a drink:: the rest you can imagine
Indeed just a money making thing business what shows nothing
You can't understand how they get away with it

Cheers John

Well done Jim I am very happy for you,I can understand your intolerance for the system ! It was the same in Vic for me some years ago when I had to go back and get my bike licence plus we have to only ride a 250cc for 1 year while the Harley sat in the shed . The best part was my Wife got jack of the pillion seat and she got her licence too .We managed to see most of Oz over the next 15 yrs on 2 Harleys and a tiny camper trailer that I towed. Now your 2nd life begins so "stay upright " Cheers Mate.

Sounds like the Skippers Ticket (to drive a boat) here in W.A.
There has been an enquiry into unethical so called instructors issuing licences regardless of ability to complete the test properly.

My original bike "L" in 1969 cost me $3 and I was just asked a few questions. No riding. The learners permit was to learn to ride. You weren't supposed to be able to ride. When I booked in the cop (yes the police ran it then) said do not wheel your bike here hoping you can ride home. If you look to ****y, you"l probably fail.

I then got my full licence a few days after my car licence. The tester didn't bother with the questions and he'd been through them a few days earlier. I just had to ride my bike up and down in front of the cop shop without falling off. That was it.

Congrats on getting your licence back
But
I am at a loss as to how your bike licence expired without your car licence expiring.
My Licence has car, bike and HR and they all renew together.

Just wondering

Mal

I still have my bike licence but haven't been on one since 1980 ish.  Fell off on a corner so just used it for drunken mates to ride around my back paddock after a BBQ.  Left it proped up against a tree when we sold up.

When I renewed my licence recently they asked if I wanted to keep the bike licence ... "Yes I suppose so".  No extra charge.

Back when Abraham played full-back for Jerusalem, paper licences were seperate pieces of paper for all licence types and legally lasted 3 years (the paper lasted the first wash). All had to be renewed separately and not necessarily the same number. If you lost one licence, you didn't necessarily lose the others. It was only with the plastic cards (10 years in Vic) that everything in on the one (boat, bike, jets, car, truck endorsements etc.

Hi Mal,

I just pulled my old gold licences. Mine go back to May 2000 and renew every 5 years. All have just my class as MR only.confuse

When they Endorsed me in January of this year they replaced my photo licence with a replacement card with the same expiry date of 03 May 2020

With class MR,R LRN24Jan2018

I now wait a week or so for another replacement card. I think I have been Had.hmm Not the first time.furious Had to fork out $24 in Jan for that one as well. Never questioned them, just took it on face value, that my licence was current.cry

Oh well, I don't ride like some and have never been stopped for doing the wrong thing.

My gold licence is as clean as Snow White's Bum for 44 years straight. I/We both only pay half price, for doing the right thing.smile The new one I guess will read MR,R PRO17Aug2018wink and thanks for the extra $26furious dam Government.

Jim

PS: their only 2 certainties in life. Taxes and a box.

Jim

Yo Jim . Its funny how you get a new licence and the expiry date is in the 20,s. I recently got my renewal and it finishes in 2025 .That has no signifigence to anyone but me ! insofar as it means I will be 75 ! Frankly thats great if I hang in that long cause my heart doc said way back in 2010 that my dodgy ticker would be good for another 5 years.! But here I am still pestering the crap out of everybody.Life is so sweet ! Cheers

Hi RustyD,

In NSW we have  three levels. Gold, Silver, and Black from memory.confuse

Gold been good for five years plus with out any demerit points. Silver for been not so good, I Think.confuse and The black is for Green P Plates I Think.confuse

Boy my head is getting itchy.

So if you hold a gold licence and have not has an infringement for 10 years, they the State Government reward you with half price on a 5 year licence. Normally $170. We both get the $85 for five years.

Please correct me with a cricket bat, if I'm incorrect.cry Its been a long long time ago.no

Forgot the letters part. MR = Medium heavy rigid truck gross 14 ton. Which I have been using since 1990. The LNR = Leaner.

M = Still married.biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin I don't know.

Jim

Hi Jim Its all about the dollar. In your retirement you might consider this machine in this video. I owned this since new in 2008 and it had lots of development like supercharged Subaru engine, automatic trans and I built the roof. Sold it last year. Its in Brissy now.

As RustyD said when I got mine living in a small town and on a farm the local cop knew very well who could ride n drive, well before they fronted up for a licence so it was more about making sure you understood the rules , and you had to know the answer, not just take a guess at which of four answers in front of you was the right one, and yep same instruction ride down to the end of the street and return, fall off and you fail, could have done that on one wheel and he knew it as he had seen me leave town two weeks earlier on one wheel .
Ahh those were the days !!!

Never ridden a bike since a car took me out at the lights on 1st June '90. at 4.20pm.
He came through red light and got me.
Still have bike on licence to remind me.

At 75 here in QLD. You have a compulsory medical. Eyes, bloods, the lot.

and a 5 yr licence. WHICH IS ONLY VALID TO END OF THAT YRS MEDICAL CERT.
Then you renew medical cert each yr.

I dumped my Semi. Multi. Heavy licences back at 65.

When I said does this licence still cover me for the HT on it.
or can I cancel it?.

He said NO. Just car and bike To much extra work.
Cancel it at runout and new reprint of licence??.
At 80 yrs.

YEA.
Wishful thinking on his part methink's.
