From what I read on other forums this has been a common problem with the v8 diesel and more than a few motors have been wrecked by owners that did not check there oil level on a regular basis. Just make sure you don't let it get to low and discus it with your mechanic at the next service.

My GU Patrol 2002. ran 246k. km's mainly towing 6.5 mtr van.
NEVER used a drop between 10k services in it's life.

2010 D-Max (also 3 ltr) 91k, kms today. Also nothing between changes.

Older machinery was designed to USE oils in general running.
Big. old. sloppy, Pots and valves.

Much tighter tolerances. Better materials, design.
They tend not to anymore.

Apart from Toyota engines. They has a reputation of slurping it.
Always have.

Plus Full Synthetics give much better Lubricity, and longer life
at those tolerances.

You will have the 1HD-FTE 6 cylinder turbocharged engine. Your best bet is to go to http://www.lcool.org/index.html  then have a look around and join the forum to ask your question from those who have been there before. They are a great group and very helpful.

Good Luck.

It's either burning it or leaking. Have you tried a higher grade fully synthetic?
