We purchased a 12v GVA TV/DVD think its a 18". Good guys Wagga $155. Runs well. Now 2 months old up to Bundaberg down to Eoroa victoria.

Have bought from Kogan . Never had issues . Most these small TV's really need another speaker or sound bar . To get the best sound out of small unit . Pretty much the same with home, larger TV's too .,

Small tv's are usually cheap Chinese rubbish.

Buy a Samsung, etc. 21-24in. and get a decent picture. $40 set of TV speakers will sort the sound side if wanting more volume.

Nowadays Streaming. Legally.

Sign on for a service, and whenever you on net.
watch what movies\shows\sport you want. through Laptop.
Linked to Monitor (Your TV.) prog available if not dual

As far as DVD's go. They old school.
Reduce them to SD or USB chips through Lappie.
Then play them through that. OR TV if it has sockets for, in rear of.
A lot do nowadays.

I have a 2 gig HDD with over 400 movies\shows on it.
And room for plenty more. with a coupls 32 gig USB's for visiting.

If due for a new Lappie. Combine.
Buy a 17in Lappie and watch TV shows through that.
not that there's ever anything on there worth watching.

I've still got the 20 in Sharp Analog tv from yrs ago in van.
Still works and cost around $1150 at the time.
The Prev 13in when they first came out was well over the grand too.
They certainly have advanced. Especially value wise.

I have a basic TEC LCD TV and a JVC car stereo in the van. The JVC unit plays my music and also DVD's. Because the stereo is connected to the TV, when I watch a movie the sound is also throught the superior stereo speakers. Normal TV is through the crappy TV speaker but I can live with that. We have a Majestic 22" with DVD player playing through a portable Bose speaker via a 3.5mm earphone cable. Both the picture and sound are excellent. If you read the specs on the link below you will be impressed. The Majestic has a very sensitive tuner that really pulls in the weaker channels.

Sphere is a good brand with reasonable sound and a DVD. But they are expensive in comparison to some others
The Sphere remotes would be one of the most user unfriendly pieces of equipment that I have ever used.
Some van manufacturers use the Sphere brand.

I had bad experience with Kogan, though they did eventually refund when they were unable to replace.

I've got an old small el-cheapo that also runs off 12v. Crappy sound inside a room but not bad in the small confines of the van. Easy to scan once you've figured out which way the aerial is supposed to face. Best accessory was wi-fi headphones. Missus can watch her stuff while I read.

Thanks everyone for your feedback it was very useful. I went to Harvey Norman & bought that Akai 24" with DVD player for $266 which included 5 years throw away warranty. (They do not repair, they throw it away & we get a new one) I thought that was a good buy. I have fitted a sound jack coupled to the speakers of the TV & we have stereo speakers each side where we sit that have volume controls each. That way I can have mine soft while Pam can turn hers up because it is right alongside her face.

The Aldi one has been in 2 vans, still going strong and has a great tuner and speakers work better than most.

We bought a cheap Kogan and use rabbits ears. We are half way through our big lap now and have picked up tv in some obscure places! All going well. Kogan has dvd built in and untold connectivity. We use a JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker with it. Other thing we have is an iPad for catchup tv like iview with a Telstra portable modem. $50 for 10gb per month.
