Not myself.
But know a couple, driven one. Plus read of plenty in 4wd mag's.
There are two engines (Chevvy)
The later model is a LOT better, but more complex.
Earlier model much easier to install and balance to everything.
Both have way more juice than we'll ever need in the weight class we tow.
Myself.
I think the safer way to go. is to retune. Dyno. Exhaust. Chip? what you got.
Putting an engine with that much Torque and straight out extra power.
In any vehicle chassis. running gear, designed for the engines they fitted with
from factory.
(OFF the track I'm talking)
Is. Basically asking for problems down the track.
Just make sure you get the twin thermostat motor . Fit the PMD on heat sink behind bumper or in dry cool place . Not on injector pump as std . Good economic motor for its size . Check harmonic balancer ? Or fit a new one ., Most issues are elect related like oil pressure switch which activates lift pump . Fit a relay as the switch isn't designed to take the lift pumps load !! The early 6.5 motors had mechanical injection . Unless it's a Hummer ex US Navy engine . Latter models had electronic injector pump . Not single rail like modern diesels .Parts are cheap for diesels . Not big horsepower motors . They are light duty. Not same league as Cummins etc

Was yours a rebuild or brand new motor , what mileage have you done on it now ? haven't seen many that seem to have clocked up a real lot . Aussie Kiwi how wud you compare the power to say a 200 series v8. Just toying with the idea at moment.
New motor, about 80k kms, originally normally aspirated now turboed. No new parts have been put in, towed the van around the block, didn't have to get below third gear on any hills. Never have to use low range for sand, only use it for crawling. It's a manual. They change the diff ratios to suit. Ring Greg at Brunswick and havachat, he's a good bloke. We had a holiday over there whilst getting the turbo fitted. Loan car and did the Margaret River Region.
It's the engine in my Winnebago Exporer..A few friends have fitted them into Patrols. Go back to mech injection for simplicity, reliability. They are 200 HP turbo engine .High compression low boost. 6 to 8lb . In my 6 ton MH it pulls well .100kph.Unless there's a strong head wind.
Yep the 6.5 was used up till 2001. Then the Duramax 6.6 was used . A development between Isuzu and GM . Much more durable engine . Not that the 6.5 is not durable . It's just NOT as heavy duty as Cummins and other motors . In a motorhome or light truck they cruise along fine using minimal fuel . They have chain timing chain. While heavy duty diesels have timing gears . 400,000 mile engines where the others can double that easy with maintenance . The 6.5 is way cheaper for parts than most diesels !!
